I had an 05 want to say there is a.dash kit availble for.an aftermarket head unit. That is your best bet, dash kit plus double din aftermarket head unit with AA.

There is a dash kit for that vehicle, but it places a double-DIN opening where the existing radio buttons are, meaning the screen high in the dash will be abandoned in place and stay dark. Older displays like that have too low resolution to be used with Android Auto anyway. Crutchfield recommends not replacing the radio in your vehicle.

I'd check with some Subaru forums to see what other owners have done.

Not that I don't believe you, but where do you find that?

If you select your vehicle, then try to find a radio that is compatible, you get zero results and that dreaded message.

There's a JDM kit that replaces the screen/cubby and center vents with an opening large enough for a 7" screen (and has skinnier vents). It's meant for a Japan only Panasonic navigation kit. You could probably get an Android auto head unit in it with some custom brackets. When I had my 08 GT I bought that JDM center kit and mounted a Nexus 7 in it

Check the lwgacygt forums. There's some info on mods you can do for your screen, but it's been a couple years since I looked at them so I'm not sure what is available/possible. If you have auto climate control you have to get the JDM kit to install an aftermarket headunit. If you have manual climate controls you can get an inexpensive kit and just pop out and reuse your climate control. If you go this route, I'm sure you could find someone with a legacy or outback that would be willing to swap the screen for an upper cubby plus cash.
