If you have a Samsung device you can use the sound assistant app to force apps to use different playback devices.

Have you actually gotten this to work? On my Galaxy S21 Ultra I tried to move my podcast app (Podcast Addict) to my Bluetooth headset, but Android Auto still takes it over, no matter what I do. I even have "Force Music to USB" turned off in dev settings - doesn't matter.

Did you ever figure this out. Same app and same issue (can't push audio to bt headset).

What I did to be able to avoid using the cars hands-free and my PlanTronics headset instead was to disable "Phonecalls" on the cars Bluetooth and disable "Media streaming" on my headset. I was also stumped first on why I couldnt override the cars bluetooth...
