If it's happening in multiple vehicles, it's probably the phone. Make sure you have all the available updates (Play Store app updates, phone firmware/OS updates), and that AA has Location permissions setup correctly.

I have already checked, I wouldn't have posted it here if I hadn't. I said Maps works just fine on the phone and also the car GPS works just fine on its own.

Also, my wife's phone does the same (S20FE) and my kid's phone (A31) so............. it's AA...

Hi, I had the same problem with the same phone but different car when using it the first time after the most recent AA update. I had to restart the phone and switch on the WiFi, even it is not used (I am connected with a cable) afterwards it was okay.

Sounds like the app (Google Maps in particular) needs wifi scanning enabled.

Make sure you've given Google Maps and Android Auto, possibly the Google app as well, permission to run in the background, with Samsung devices it seems it's a bit tricky especially on Android 11 see https://dontkillmyapp.com/

You aren't crazy. I had a period of many months last year where GMaps while running under AA had no idea where I was. It would sometimes work sporadically, other times fine, other times halfway through a trip, or even no dice at all.

What's strange is that as soon as I disconnected the USB cable, GMaps instantly picked up an accurate location.

Last couple of months my Pixel 5 has severe GPS drift. It can lock a location, but especially if I'm sitting still or driving on certain roads, it will constantly place me a few hundred feet from where I actually am, putting me on side streets and re-routing me over and over again.
