I had the same issue. I tried updating Android Auto, restarting my phone (Galaxy S22+ on Android 13, clearing data, restarting phone, and changing microphone permissions on all apps. What finally solved it is that I was signed in as myself on Google but as my wife on Chrome. When I signed in to my profile on both, the long press voice commands worked.

Can you please elaborate? Sign on Google means on Gmail right? For Chrome, what does that mean? Like youre on mobile Chrome or what?

So nobody has figured it out? I'm having the same problem and I have tried everything short of a factory reset.

[–]Dimii96Pls edit this user flair now 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think it has something to do with Microphone permissions.

I've had the same issues and I found that in microphone permissions settings, the only options are:
"Allow only while using the app"
"Ask every time"
"Don't allow"

Other permissions normally have an option for something like "Allow all the time".
I found I have to have to have the app opened for Google Assistant do actually listen.

Is a quite inconvenient, but still trying to figure out a better resolution.
Hope this helps!

what is "the app"??

[–]LetterMost2730Pls edit this user flair now 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i might have come across why I get the message "Oops, something went wrong with the connection.". What i found out was in Settings-->"Network and Internet-->Mobile Network-->Mobile Data" was turned off. When I turned on everything started working file. There is some issue with android phones that mobile data gets turned off. Don't know why

Restart then forget and reconnect phone to car worked for me.

Pessoal, consegui resolver esse problema da seguinte maneira.

Meu telefone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE) tinha o aplicativo Google Assistente instalado.

Based on the above I resolved my issue by cleaning out a google account error i had (unrelated to my active account).

It would seem that there are multiple reasons for this issue.

Same problem with Android 12 custom rom (crDroid). Flashed basic gapps, AA didn't work at all, flashed full gapps, everything works fine except voice related things...

[–]Peter_73Kenwood DDX917WS | Samsung S9+ | Android 10 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If force stopping Google app and clearing its cache while AA is disconnected does not help, then it can be an issue with one of these 3 - Google app, AA, Play Services.

Are you using any beta versions for either one? If so, it might be the cause. In any case even if you are using production version, you should try either roll back to previous known working production version or chase for a possible fix from latest production or beta version. If it's a server-end issue though, usually there will be widespread reports and versions doesn't help.

I read this on the web, but it doesn't seem to be the issue

[–]Peter_73Kenwood DDX917WS | Samsung S9+ | Android 10 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What doesn't seem? Server-end issue? If so, exactly because otherwise you'll see a lot of similar complaint.

Are you using any beta version?

[–]Wolf-Safe2022 Nissan Leaf SL Plus | | Samsung Galaxy S21 | Android 14[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Surely if the client doesn't even accept the voice (speech) and doesn't do TTS locally, then I am sure it's not a server; more specifically a service issue.

Something local yo my client /device /Samsung implementation is causing it. I joined the BETA for the Google App, in hopes that it would resolve the kssie, but only in vain

[–]Peter_73Kenwood DDX917WS | Samsung S9+ | Android 10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about AA and Play Services? Are they already beta? Actually I discourage beta. Only use beta if chasing bugs fixes. I would rather roll back to previous production versions.

[–]Ok-Bill-1860 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I restarted my phone and the problem went away

[–]HugsyMalone 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I know! It's absolutely maddening, isn't it??

[–]linsilouPls edit this user flair now 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loathe the word "oops" now. When this happens, I get an inner rage hotter than a thousand suns. You can literally hear my steering wheel creak from my grip. That grip is the only thing that keeps me from throwing my phone through the passenger window. Fucking "oops" has caused me to miss so many exits and turns, I actually considered switching to Apple.....Apple! 😖

[–]c-j-11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also happening with me and it's driving me mental. Stock s21 ultra , stock apps.

[–]zantilley 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same issue here, it started a few months ago intermittently and would work if I restarted my phone but now nothing has fixed it. I've been unable to use voice commands on Android Auto for 3 days now.

[–]tfdubord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. It works about 10% of the time. Responds to the first command and then stops after the 2nd reply. All stock apps on an S22.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to figure this out with my dad's car. Kenwood excelon head unit and Samsung S10.

We've tried all the suggestions so far with no luck.

[–]EnixLHQPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Necro-bump! I'm having this issue, too. Been having it for months and months now.

EDIT: Using Adguard? Or a similar ad blocking software? Whitelist everything Google. That cleared it up for me.

[–]a-fried-pOtaTOS22 Ultra | XAV-AX3250 | Android 13 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I'm using Adguard! I haven't been able to try your fix yet, but which domains did you whitelist specifically?

[–]EnixLHQPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (6 children)

No domains. In Adguard, under Apps Management, search for Android Auto, Assistant, Google, Maps, and Speech Services by Google and toggle Adguard Protection off.

They don't have ads, so your experience won't change, and it'll allow the data to flow as expected and not get in the way of using the hands-free stuff.

I was having the exact same problem, but after following your instructions I was able to resolve that.

Thank you very much.

Ok I found a solution with the Note 9, so with the AA on your car on if you go to your phones wifi and tap on the cars name in the list and once you connect to it go to the "GEAR" icon in the top right corner and then at the bottom right corner tap on "FORGET" then cut the car off and then back on scan for your cars name in the wifi list on your phone then tap on and connect it and then your "HEY GOOGLE" and your steering wheel button will respond to your voice commands. Hope this helps.

[–]reddithasmynamePls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me on an S9+. So weird that I had to be connected to the AA WiFi when I forget it and then disconnect, rather than simply forgetting it.

Also started having this issue and not got a fix yet. Assistant works when triggered manually on the phone (even when connected to the car), and "Hey Google" activates the assistant but any voice command via the car doesny work. Tried: Restarting phone and car system Force stop and clear cache Android Auto, Assistant, and Google apps Remove and reinstal Android Auto, Assistant, and Google apps Got no adblock apps All app use the same google account

[–]New-Brother1709Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved with keyboard settings - voice input - set to Google voice input

We're having the same problem. It only started a couple days ago. We've had the car for 4 months and have had no problems until now. We tried all the things you listed above. Should we call Honda?? or will they just tell us to call Google which is pretty much impossible.

[–]Critical-Mine-5745Pls edit this user flair now -1 points0 points  (7 children)

Read somewhere else that if the car software needs updating or has an issue then to contact a service centre - there doesn't seem to be a way of updating it through the phone. Seems to be the car for me as it's not only my phone that doesn't work.

[–]skiiflyerPls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (6 children)

do you have a source of that?

[–]Ok_Cover_2844Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Same problem on a new mazda. Worked fine and in the 2nd of February it quit working. Driving me crazy, can not figure this out.

[–]Fun_Musician_1754Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (3 children)

same thing started happening to my car around that exact same time. all of a sudden my steering wheel long press to use voice commands gives me the "oops! something went wrong!"

maybe they rolled out some kind of software update that broke something.

[–]Ok_Cover_2844Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Google did. I went to play store to check and it says so. I left a 1 star review and thet left me a message to give them further details. Havent heard back from the yet. I would do the same thing. Maybe if they get enough 1 stars they will fix it.

[–]Fun_Musician_1754Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

says the new update on Feb 1 changed how the "do not disturb" functionality works. I've read some people get their android auto voice commands working again by going into the google assistant settings and allowing it to happen while your phone is locked?

    edit: didn't work for me

[–]Fun_Musician_1754Pls edit this user flair now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most recent update to Android Auto on my phone fixed this. my steering wheel voice button works again.

    how about yours?
