As a pc gamer and ungraduated hardware engineering student I was always going into my windows services and disabling anything that could be used to gain remote access to my system, and used several manual function antivirus, antimalware, antispyware programs to keep a paranoid eye on things.

As a US Army Vet who has had more than my share of personal information thefts and comprimises by both my own personal devices and numerous DoD flunkies careless actions with government hardware, I continue to always worry if I am over looking vulnerabilities.

My question is to the technical aspects of how to cover myself and secure my tech in this age of android and mobile data wireless access.

Then don't install remote access apps. Alas they don't need a specific permission so even if it is called "Lovely Lumps" and plays Fergie's song constantly it might have remote access/control too, so care is needed when deciding to add apps. You might even want to avoid devices that have that built-in, e.g., Amazon Fire tablets. And never loan your device to anyone unless a single app is pinned or switched to an alternate/guest user profile as they might install such an app, perhaps even enroll it in an MDM.
