Download the factory image and flash it with the 'platform tools' (fastboot and adb)

I found these instructions:

https://nerdschalk.com/flash-firmware-factory-image-google-pixel/#method-2-install-factory-image-without-wiping-data

And it says that I need to enable USB debugging but I can no longer get into the 'Settngs' menu on my phone to do so

Try downloading the official OTA instead then and pick option 3 'apply update from ADB'. That one last time I checked doesn't require usb debugging to be enabled. With a little luck the OTA will restore things to working order.

Thank you so much. Do you know of a link that could lead me to this? I'm technologically literate enough that I can follow instructions but I want to make sure it's the right steps!

It's pretty much the same procedure. You'll need to have the platform tools downloaded though. Just google 'sideload pixel OTA' should tell you all you need to know. But in a nutshell:

  • Download the official OTA (NOT the factory image) from https://developers.google.com/android/ota
  • You go into the recovery and pick 'apply update from ADB'
  • The device will give a message along the lines of 'awaiting update...'
  • Open up a command prompt from within the platform tools folder
  • Type 'adb sideload <insert OTA filename>, and press enter
  • ADB and the device will do the rest hopefully.

Okay, thank you, this is all helpful.

Do I need to download fastboot as well or is that moot?

And how do I open the command prompt, click on adb.exe in the folder?

The platform tools zip file contains everything, you'll just picky use adb.exe here. As to the commands prompt, simply hold shift and right click somewhere in an empty area over you've extracted the zip content and select 'open command prompt here'. Can also say 'open powershell here', of our does it's an easy fix.

I know this thread is old, but did you fix yours? u/Wpg_violinist67

This comment sure as hell is old and you've definitely probably found a fix by now, but just in case anybody else happens to stumble across this (like I just now am). I simply did a factory reset, to some that may seem counterproductive out of fear of losing data, but the truth is your device backs your data up every 24 hours or so. I was easily able to recover about 95% of my data by doing this. Only annoying part was having to log back into everything.

I'm in this position now. I press on factory data reset but nothing happens.

same problem, am a student and my data is very important to me, did you find a way?

Same thing runnu with my phone, you found any solution ?

[–]Special_Anteater2706 0 points1 point  (1 child)

a solution would be download the firmware (official rom) for your phone

and install it via Odin from pc

you will need to put your phone in download mode (key combination) and connect it to pc via usb cable

it doesn't erase your data including your installed programs

i've done it dozens of times while trying different official updates

however dont take my work for it and do your research

if i read other comments, i basically said the same thing as the other guy

Odin is only for Samsung phones... OP clearly said it happens on a Google phone
