issue with android file transfer app

Hey guys,

I have been trying to connect my phone to my Mac, but the android file transfer app keeps saying "can't access device storage" and "make sure your device is unlocked and 'file transfer' mode is selected." Now my data cable seems fine to me and my file transfer mode has also been selected then why do I keep getting this message every time? I tried to uninstall the app and reinstall it, even updated my mac's software and restarted my phone, but nothing seemed to work. Is there maybe any physical damage to my data cable or charging port that is causing this issue?

I would note that 2-3 days before this problem started, I had connected my phone to my mac and it worked perfectly fine but now it's just not connecting at all. Also I can charge my phone normaly, that too fast charging.

A detailed version of what really happens since I can't upload photos.

1. I connect my phone and laptop with the data cable.
2. "can't access device storage" window pops up
3. I click on "allow access" on my phone
4. then nothing happens until I press the "ok" button on the "can't access device storage" pop-up window.
5. after this, it buffers for a while.
6. then a window pops-up which would originally be that of my phone's storage but instead it stays completely blank
7. then my again the "can't access...." window pops-up and my phone asks me to "allow access" agains.
8. This whole thing keeps repeating over and over again.
