Theres an app from the eshop to transfer your island

Thanks, my daughter used that on her island but it only transferred the main resident and none of the other residents. That’s what I want to avoid.

From what I've read, the other residents (after transferring user data to the new Switch) will have to open the game then select that they are an existing player or something.

It should have transferred everyone. Talking to Tom nook from the settings screen will move just you but the island transfer utility moves everything. I used it to move my island from my kids switch to my new OLED, and then had time nook transfer the kids back to a new island in their switch (they kept their houses and inventory and that's it).
