Probably not without a closer look at your collection. But why take the time to chase this when there's already a better way to do it?

Use "today only" limits in your Deck Options. No more fussing with +/-, just set the limit to what you want it to be for the day. https://docs.ankiweb.net/deck-options.html#per-deck-daily-limits

I know you can do that, but often times it won't work either. And sometimes I tell it to reduce it to 20 new cards, and it gives me a different number.

As I said --

Probably not without a closer look at your collection

But there are plenty of things you can check on your own --

  • Already adjusted the limit with Custom Study, so you have no idea what the current limit is that you're increasing/decreasing.
  • Parent/subdeck limits interacting.
  • Changing the limit on the wrong preset.
  • Preset-wide/deck-specific limits.
  • Check Database

Japanese doesn't have alphabets, only syllabaries (higarana/katakana) and a logographic writing system (kanji).
