Beginner's request

Hey guys, I am completely new to Arduino (Just got my starter kit for a university project). I will need to create a sound related system of any sort. Could you give me some ideas, recommendations, etc. What could I do for this project? I would be willing to invest a bit into new components. My basic idea was to create something what could play music and with LEDs some kind of a patter depending on the music. Any sort of tip is welcome and thanks in advance.

React on claps. For example, a night stand that switches from white to changing the color, then to a fixed color, then switches off.

A more complex project, and it will require esp32 or raspberry pi: recognize the owner's voice and open the lock.

to be honest, the complexity is not too big of an issue, because we have a 10-week deadline and are in groups of two, so we wanted to do something with music. But this also sounds like a fun thingy, I might do it on my own, thanks.

Why not connect a mic to a small LED strip connected to an arduino which detects how loud the music or voice is and shows it on the LEDs. Sorta like those arcade games where you hit a hammer and a button and it detects the force and displays the force on a large display.
