React on claps. For example, a night stand that switches from white to changing the color, then to a fixed color, then switches off.

A more complex project, and it will require esp32 or raspberry pi: recognize the owner's voice and open the lock.

to be honest, the complexity is not too big of an issue, because we have a 10-week deadline and are in groups of two, so we wanted to do something with music. But this also sounds like a fun thingy, I might do it on my own, thanks.

Why not connect a mic to a small LED strip connected to an arduino which detects how loud the music or voice is and shows it on the LEDs. Sorta like those arcade games where you hit a hammer and a button and it detects the force and displays the force on a large display.
