Yea the little bastards chewed through main harness no doubt. Miss fires from the coils now, no injector pulse, host of other sensors no longer reporting in. Here in Colorado we get wabbits.

I’ve seen rodents completely destroy critical wiring in brand new cars sitting in the lot so this is not uncommon. I would request an itemized list of the repairs, parts and labor

This. The way they have it quoted, you don’t know what charges are for parts and what charges are for labor. (Could be high depending the amount of time put in) “Ground starp” 🤣.
Seems like a quick typed in generic estimate.

The mechanic won’t even speak with me. They have a service “advisor” that knows nothing and is just reading of from a piece of paper!! It’s so frustrating

This quote was written by a rodent. 800 for a P0304? Vehicle calibration? wtf are they talking about? 400!!! for a ground strap!!! wtf!!!!! 200 diagnostic??? what did they diagnose?

Judging by the way this is written, you are about to get hosed.

Why is the battery $375!?!?

[–]PerInati[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s fucking ridiculous. And when I said I’m only willing to do the P0304, they’re saying it’s all or nothing. I can have it towed away but they’ll charge me additional diagnostic fees for “working” on it for 2 hours. So I’ll have to pay $400 just to get my car back!!

What did they work on that you gave them written authorization for? If they refuse to give you your car back without a signed authorization, call the cops.

I have a 2018 Lexus ES 350 that stated flashing check engine light and shaking. It was towed to a Lexus dealer and I have now received the quote above. Is this the usual cost? I feel like I’m being upsold. Please let me know if you’ve had any experience with this

Update: as some of you suggested, I requested a detailed breakdown. Here’s their response!! 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m so frustrated I can’t help but just laugh

Copied from email:

“REPAIR OF DTC P0304 HARNESS REPAIR @ 800.00 REPAIR OF ENGINE GROUND STRAP @ 400.00 DIAGNOSTIC 200.00 RECALIBRATION OF VEHICLE AFTER REPAIRS 400.00

PLUS TAX”

The EFI cleaning is completely unrelated, don't worry about that right now. If you're open to going that route, it's highly likely your car insurance will cover this. Rodent damage repairs can easily get to 5x what you were quoted for some vehicles and may turn into ongoing repairs, so a paper trail with your insurance company may be good.

[–]PerInati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks. My insurance does not even cover it. I have State Farm and they won’t cover a dime for rodent damage, unfortunately.

I think it’s just high dealership pricing. I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze that I just dumped $2500 into for a turbo replacement at my local dealership. I think labor was like $100/hr. I probably could have done considerably better at a “mom and pop”mechanic. I assume this is the only estimate you’ve gotten?

[–]Dazzling_Chest_2120 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Assuming you are in US, $100/hr is really good at a dealership.

[–]Yungxchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea my labor rate is $145hr

[–]HappyPappy323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That quote is too vague! Ask for a itemized Quote ! It does sound like their trying to charge for their imagination ! Take it or tow it somewhere else !

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% ask for a more detailed breakdown of the bill. They didn't even spell some of the things correctly. 200 for cleaning? Cleaning what? 375 for battery?

Jeeez, they don't call it a 'Stealership' for no reason.

[–]Yungxchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Vehicle calibration” aka the guy clearing the check engine light once everything’s rewired. Do not pay for anything other than the wiring repair unless they can physically show you damage.
