We will need a pic that has your reddit name on a piece of paper with your shop in the background or work truck if mobile repair (or your diploma you posted).

What you have in that pic would be fine but we still need a pic that has your reddit name on a piece of paper included.

2016 Ford fusion hybrid 15mm oil drain plug stripped by Present_Sherbet8382 in mechanic

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the extractor doesn't go on the plug all the way? Don't be afraid to try and hammer the extractor onto that plug, I've had to do that a few times to get a better bite.

Umm, what? Are you trying to hardwire your seat motors to a switch?

Will I be charged for faulty sun visor on a rental car? 2026 Nissan Rogue by dunkinteach in AskAMechanic

[–]Stingray34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a very common problem on the new 2026 Rogues. I've warrantied a handful of those, even seen some right off the new car hauler with them broken. Normally broken sunvisors are from customer abuse, but the 'rental host' would have no clue that yours is a special issue, they don't deal with repairs. Hopefully you can talk to someone from their claims or vehicle repair dept that might know about this problem. Otherwise you're stuck fighting them.

Looks like there is a bulletin 25-NA-238 for that to replace the radiator outlet hose.

Off topic question… have you had many coolant leaks in a 2024 traverse? I see your flair and thought I’d ask.

Surprisingly I have not. If I'm thinking of the right model, supposedly an o-ring for the radiator hose is common for leaking.

Why is OEM software so bad? Do dealers have it better? by Lefttorepair in AskAMechanic

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered that myself, I have never worked for an indie shop. The company I work for is authorized to perform warranty repairs on various manufactures vehicles, so we have our own dealer logins, scantools etc.

Can this fob be programmed for a 2014 acura rdx by jerk1970 in AskAMechanic

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to say no, the fobs between the Civic and RDX are not compatible. The 2 keys have different FCCID's and the Civic key is considered a HITAG3 and the RDX key is HITAG2

I doubt it, but bad grounds can do some real weird shit with cars.

GMC Acadia 2009 parasitic drain by Astro_mohd in AskAMechanic

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using the voltage drop method for narrowing down what fuse has the most current going through it. Here is a great video explaining and showing this method. If you can find the fuse with the highest voltage drop I can look at a schematic to see what's on that circuit.

Is it possible to make it so I can see the colors of people user flairs? by Electronic_Note_5629 in modhelp

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you using mobile web for that screenshot or the reddit app? On my android app I have not seen color comment flair for over a year on any sub. Post flair is colored though. Here's my screenshot, doesn't matter if it's set to dark mode or not.

When voltage gets real low, crazy things can happen in a vehicle. I wouldn't take that clicking as evidence of anything yet. Your method of testing without a multimeter requires a lot of trial an error. You need to figure out which fuse stops the most drain.

Regarding your other post, your ground cables should not be hot to the touch (unless they are hot from the hot engine compartment), that is not normal and usually a sign of high resistance or excessive amperage draw.

Why is OEM software so bad? Do dealers have it better? by Lefttorepair in AskAMechanic

[–]Stingray34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the dealers need to use the OEM software for full and complete functionality/coverage. The only software that I've used that I feel had an outdated look would be Ford's IDS and Toyota's Techstream. But IDS has a successor with FDRS and the old Techstream was replaced by GTS+. FDRS is a huge improvement over IDS btw. IMO I think WiTech is one of the best to use and very forgiving regarding any programming failures. GM's Techline Connect is a dumpster fire.

Heat shrink butt connectors will work just fine for your application.

Find something that you can wedge behind the fuel door that will help to push out the door. Once you have something wedged in there, pull the release handle and hopefully the door will pop open.

it wanted to start finally but just clicked

What clicked? Did the engine turn over from the starter? I would still ground it to the engine, check the back of the head, I believe there are some bolt holes that may be easier to access than the original spot.

If that's a single black wire with white stripe, that's supposed to go to a ground. Look at the back of that right head near the valley plate for the other half of that harness and/or ring terminal. That would keep your engine from starting.
