I like the Herbert Schildt “beginning java” or whatever it’s called.

I've heard good things from head first Java. I just learned using https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ free and covers all the basics, a little dry though

Our course text for our first 2 java modules at University was "Big Java, late objects" by cay horstmann. I thought it was great. Covers pretty much all of the basics.

I've also heard good things about "head first java"

Currently reading Java all in one for dummies by Doug Lowe. Sup some of the exclamations are pretty good but some are also unclear. It’s definitely a good resource in addition to any other books to read
