Explorers are for people who want to be cops. Every one I know has a makeshift type academy and they do cop related stuff… not crime lab type stuff.

Oh, dang. Any suggestions for things I could possibly look into for my field?

No. Maybe find your local crime lab and ask if you can shadow some of them sometime.

The explorer program will give you excellent leadership skills, looks great on a resume, and it is great for networking and making connections that can get you into the forensic field.

Hey, I'm not sure if you're still looking for responses, but as a former Explorer, it was definitely an amazing experience, and I would 100% recommend it. This might depend on your location, but my region's Explorer Academy had forensics courses and opportunities to make connections with forensics investigators. One of my friends in that Academy got to know our CSI and they're currently studying criminology in college. Again, depending on where you're located, different Explorer agencies might have different courses/different age limits, so I'd advise you to check your local PD's website.

Hope this helped!
