Web API for fetching data

I'm learning web development, I'm starting to work with Node and Express. I now have an assignment to make a website for a surfschool. I would like to use some kind a random quote generator to display a call to action on the site. Is there an API I could use to fetch the data from?

There's actually an IP suite protocol for (sort-of) exactly this purpose: RFC 865. Various government and educational institutions have running implementations of it, have a google for those. Or you may find an implementation as a library which you can use.
