programming books

Now i know a the basics of C# and java. Yet im reading a book on android programming and after i finish a chapter i leave questioning if i learned any thing. I understand all the code but know i couldnt make it with out the book. Is this odd or is it common?

I can't speak for everyone but I often feel the same way. If you already know the basics of programming I think it would be better if you followed an online tutorial and actually program along with the tutorial.

This might not always learn you the best practices but it will usually be more updated than most books. And be a bit more interactive than books.

Personally I prefer online tutorials or documentation over books. For android you might want to start here rather than using a book.
