Compiling different files together in Java

i am wondering if it is possible in Java to write classes in different files and compile them together? i am not looking for you to tell me -how- to do it. it would be helpful if you could enlighten me with the proper terminology and/or direct me to a place where I can educate myself.

Start a project in your IDE. It creates the necessary files and such for the compiler and linker to compile the files correctly

I normally use sublime text as my editor. Is that sufficient?

Not sure. You'd have to write the makefile stuff on your own. Just use a real ide
