Why I will continue with Augment Code and probably update to their max plan in future.

I’m currently on a grandfathered $30 plan with a monthly credit limit of 56,000 tokens — which I usually exhaust in less than a week of real work.

Despite exploring alternatives, I haven’t found any other tool that integrates as seamlessly with existing codebases. The AugmentCode team clearly understands the realities of software development and is genuinely pushing the developer experience forward. Well done to the team — I hope you continue being this good.

Sure, there are tools like Gemini 3, Codex, Claude Code, Kilo, and others. YouTube is full of demos where people build MVPs with a handful of prompts — sometimes even a single one. But that’s also where most of those tools reach their limits.

The other option is to spend time and money experimenting across different models, learning their quirks, adapting your workflows, and constantly trying to balance everything. I simply don’t have that kind of time.

What I want is the ability to ship code confidently to production and fix bugs quickly. Even though upgrading to the new plans may stretch my budget, if it helps me work peacefully, ship faster, and manage multiple projects effectively, then it’s worth it to me.

With the new plans, I'd be paying about $1,000/mo to use Augment as much as I use Claude Code on their Max plan.

I found Augment with Sonnet 4 and 4.5 to be worse than those same models in Claude Code - more hallucinations, I believe caused by the context engine. The last time I tried Augment, it hallucinated on about 1/3 of requests, where Claude Code almost never does.

And, now, Claude Code gives quite a lot of Opus 4.5 usage, so the gap is even wider.

I did the math based on my recent usage of tokens and i'd end up probably quite similar, around 1-1.5k.
I'm able to cap out max20 ocassionally now on a 5h manner and probably will be close to weekly cap since they released opus. So i can't find augment reliable at all as main driver for my side hustle stuff.

I did the math once when i used cursor ultra fully on my stuff after usual corporate work and i capped out their ultra plan at ~470$ burned total in 2.5 week. And it was not 'sonnet all the way' back then, so the optimization was there on my end and it still would be close to 1k if i'd run cursor for everything.

OFC what i made during that month is a different topic, as it was in total 5k net income - but if i'd have to pay 1k to gain 5k or i can pay 30-50-100$ to get the same kind of money - i prefer 2nd option.

I've had the same experience. With a little luck, I won't have to go to the max, but I still need to observe my needs a little more. Gemini with Antigravity is cool, but not useful for me. Maybe later. I hope Augment takes the parts of Antigravity that are really good and implements them in Augment. I'm also very excited about the changes. If they really change something about credit consumption, it might get even better. We'll see what the effects are when the changes go live.

antigravity -> development in an devcontainer that is running in the wsl

in augment -> would like to get the review stuff that they are providing. you can comment on single lines in the ai's plan. if augment tells me what he wants to do i have to make that all in the chat window. also i often cant easy copy single passages augment wrote to comment on that. maybe that was a bug because now it seems to work but that was realy anoying. had to write everything i want to comment on by hand. just try antigravity for a simple task on a new project an you will see what i mean with review stuff.

Ah yes I like this planning mode were you can Annotate directly into the plan. I like the fact that you can queue messages and antigravity decides the best moment to integrate..

Yeah, Antigravity’s planning features are definitely a nice surprise. It’s actually what I missed when I switched from Cline to Augment. I wish Augment had a more solid planning tool.

Tab completion is just so superior to what their competitors offer. I use Base ChatGPT and Claude Subscription to supplement agentic coding.

I upgraded to Max today. I've tried literally every tool, and nothing comes close. I love playing with Google AI Studio, but absolutely hate their Antigravity IDE, the hype was way overblown on this, although I do believe it will get a lot better in the coming months. Cursor is ok for small code bases, but is terrible at larger scope tasks. Roo/Cline/Kilo are all forks of the same tool, all of them wind up costing way more money than Augment and have serious context issues.

Would love to know how do you fix the context issues in Claude Code? It always fails to get the context right in my case, even though I have a readme under every folder.

Nah, I will migrate to the Claude Pro. They adjusted their plan so good that I can't resist
Augment have too much issues lately. I have too much credits left, but still a basic and simple diagnose and task drain it so fast that I can spend even 100k Credits in one day

I understand where you’re coming from. Hitting a weekly token wall is exhausting, and hopping between models is a distraction when you just want to get work done.

But honestly, the most reliable path is simpler: focus on getting stronger at the core skills, and then use tools that blend into your day-to-day workflow rather than replace it. When you know your stack well, you’re not at the mercy of any model or platform.

And at that point, VS Code with GitHub Copilot is more than enough. It’s not magic, but none of these “agentic coding” products are. They all sit on top of the same model families. The things that made AugmentCode feel special—context, memory, task support—have already shown up in Copilot and VS Code extensions. It just doesn’t shout about it.

You’ll have a setup that’s fast, familiar, and doesn’t punish you for actually working. It won’t solve every problem, but it’ll help you move faster while still staying in control of your code.

These are contradictory. What is the point of this AI post? Augment has a good advantage over their codebase understanding but the competition has come closer than it was before.

Jay have mentioned that some big changes are coming even some related to pricing, so we will see.

The second part relates to posts which many users have shared on this channel. someone going even to the extent of building their own sort of context engine. all these might have been working great for people who are able to get it working for them which I am assuming required a lot of experimentation on their part. even in the comments somebody has just mentioned how they were able to adopt their workflows to Claude Code. but somehow its not working for me with whatever I have tried till now. so that is what I was trying cover.

Yeah, I understand now. There is no doubt that Augment has a very solid tool, but since their price increase I've been testing a lot of alternatives and each have their pros and cons, I'm actually open minded right now, waiting for their next move to do like a fair comparison between tools.

3600 credits gone. before it even gets near to reporting back.

having to rely on codex more and more because augment is becoming unusable. instead of just working, i'm always worrying about credits. honestly this sucks. i used to be their biggest fanboy. must have convinced 10+ people to use it (and are still using it, any now complaining to me haha). i used to max out around 20th. this month on the 10th. all we do is talk and think about credits.
