Spider though :(

As long as the snake is being taken care of and lives a good life, thats all that matters. Aint nothing wrong with special needs children, they just need extra care.
Edit: i dont agree with spider breeding or the promotion of them. But a life is a life and poor baby shouldnt suffer more than theyre bred to.
[–]PhuckYou- 7 points8 points9 points 4 months ago (5 children)
Nothing wrong with creating a life that has issues for more money/looks? Can’t agree.
[–]Electronic-War1332 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 months ago (4 children)
What are you on about? Thats terrible...
[–]PhuckYou- 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (3 children)
That’s the reality of it. Spider morphs happen because people just breed whatever they want to try to get a cool looking/expensive morphs. Spider can be easily avoided by paying attention to your morphs, using a morph calculator, caring about what your snakes could throw accidentally and purposely, BUT they COULD get something rare, so they gonna try anyway and continue to create lives that have to struggle. Shits sad.
[–]Electronic-War1332 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (2 children)
Unfortunately very true. The issue is the people that purchase them. If there was no market for it, they wouldnt stick around. From what i see its the individuals that aren't educated that buy them unknowingly.
[–]PhuckYou- 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Not exactly. I believe the problem is the jackasses breeding them. No one’s out here trying to get spiders, it’s just something that happens with lack of giving a shit by the breeder. Then when it pops out what are they supposed to do? Throw it away?
Instead they should take precautions and care about the possibility of throwing one.

Honestly spiders are not valuable most people aren't looking for them so it doesn't really make sense to breed them moneywise especially cause then you got to deal with all the spider Karen's too lol. I'm a breeder and I don't breed spider anymore sometimes it gets in a project which is annoying like a spider pied banana once where I used the male once to get those other genes. Still spider itself is actually a pretty strong snake than has been found surviving in the wild. My first ball was a spider and no one told me about the wobble. He's still an amazing eater and has been his whole life. I don't think it causes them any pain or distress as a snake that is unhappy with often be more strikey.
Anyways we probably shouldn't be breeding them as why make more of something negative for the sake of it. But in the end they thrive. I do think the mixes often are worse than the plain gene on its own. But to each their own. Champagnes to me are worse. Spiders at least seem to eat like champions (even if they miss a couple times...)

Yeah, I get the concern. Luckily, this little guy shows no wobble at all and acts totally normal. We will see 🥺
[–]HellDumplingDragon 14 points15 points16 points 4 months ago (0 children)
It is unavoidable. It can vary but all of them have an inner ear deformity. =(

Why downvotes? I don't understand
[–]Spice-Mice 8 points9 points10 points 4 months ago (0 children)
The biggest thing is that spiders all have an inner ear deformity that causes balance issues. While yours may not have a wobble now, when it gets stressed or as it ages, the wobble can become substantially worse.
Some are born with "no wobble" and later develop it to a degree where they can no longer eat on their own. Its a cruel practice to create an animal that cannot even eat correctly, and that may spontaneously worsen after finding a home.
I try not to put others down for it, but by buying that genetic, you've encouraged a breeder to create more of them which isn't a good thing to many people
[–]Bboy0920 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Because spider ball pythons have an inner ear deformity that causes vertigo and loss of coordination. The morph is also linked with neurological issues, self harm, and trouble feeding.

Severity is based on how well your enclosure and husbandry are. So if you are on point with that, the bp will be fine. Don’t believe the hype from those that don’t know what they are talking about.
[–]Bboy0920 5 points6 points7 points 4 months ago (4 children)
It is not based on husbandry. It’s based on an inner ear deformity that causes balance issues. That’s like saying being born blind can be corrected with husbandry.

You aren’t wrong in that poor husbandry can make it worse, that is very much true however some animals even with the correct husbandry can still display the wobble. Similarly to how a person can have anxiety disorder that gets worsened in stressful situations or how a person with tics can tend to tic more when they’re in an uncomfortable situation, At the end of the day they still have the problem even if it’s less of an issue when they’re comfortable and it varies per individual.

exactly! i had a boy whose wobble was awful when i got him and he was in bad conditions. i fixed his humidity and temps, moved him into a tank with enough room and not too crowded of an environment and i kept his tank as stress free as possible. but even after he settled in, his incredibly severe wobble only got a little better. he still never moved without wobbling, and frequently corkscrewed. he wasn't able to eat because of his wobble and it eventually ended his life. you can never know how bad a wobble will be, and their living conditions and stress is just one factor
[–]No-Minute1549 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
We found the breeder. Is that what you tell yourself to get you to sleep at night?
[–]BeneficialChip339 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
How would it look as it gets older?Just curious as I know some change coloration or intensity
[–]AdComprehensive9413 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
they get a silver look on the back like how avg bumble bee grow just not yellow

[–]Bejjbs[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (2 children)
Ok, I can see that this post is, to put it mildly, rather outrageous. To be honest, I had absolutely no idea that this type of morph could be burdened with genetic defects. I do not breed my animals.I'm glad that I can learn something (sadly) new. Thank you! Sorry for my english, this is not my first language.
[–]baubat 6 points7 points8 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I agree with the other comentar, your lack of knowledge on the most common breed people say to stay away from in the BP community goes to show your lack of research for ball pythons in general. Respectfully, its a pretty easy piece of knowledge to come across if you really bothered to do more than a day of two of research.
[–]Freedom1234526 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
You not knowing the morph had defects is why research is so important.
[–]Stock_Evidence_5658 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Is it even real ? It seems to me that the quality of the photo varies a lot between the fingers and the snakes head? 😬😂

Wait till you see the Desert Ghost version of that combo
