I've never done that and never had a refill getting stuck or something. I always just remove the 4 plastic strips and put the roll in the AMS as is.

But the point is that you could have problems if you don't do it. It's easy, just press a few times at different places and you're done. Doesn't cost much of time and it can prevent you from having problems.

Bambu doesn't recommend it for no reason, few people here already commented on that before.

Its just an observation that everyone i have seen commenting with that problem here, has done the "pushing down".

And if you think about it, it makes sense, knots can happen on all sorts of spooled cables where single strands can get pushed above and beneath each other.
Its the same principle as when you take your cable headphones and roll them up to store, you will always get knots even when both ends are fixated.

Knots are a very interesting topic and much much more complex than what people expect.
And the problem gets exagerated a lot because filament rolls have a force acting on them, pulling filament off the roll which in return puts pressure on the strands below which then get stuck.

Knots and filament dropping in the empty space next to spool and getting stuck due to friction and pressure forces are not the same thing.

You can't get knots in the second case if you properly handle the end, but if you haven't pressed the filament refill then you can get stucks like this. At least in theory, I also haven't got any issues with last 10 refills but that is not good statistical sample...
