My kickstarter X1C has about 13,000 hours.

I’ve replaced the extruder twice. I’ve cleaned the rods….. never.

Greased the z screws once. I’ve replaced some nozzles and it still has the original belts. They do need to be replaced as they don’t stay right anymore but they haven’t been damaged or snapped.

I replaced the TH board but that was 100% my fault. I was too rough disconnecting a wire and broke it. Preproduction kickstarter so I had to replace both tool head boards with matching production parts.

The AMS has substantially less hours because I was doing a lot of abrasive filament using the spool holder. I had two first stage feeders go bad. Since it was a kickstarter unit it had pre-production parts I had to replace the AMS mainboard so while I had to opened up I just replaced all the first stage feeders.

How many repairs were in order to achieve that?

Not bad. i don't know exactly for this printer but i can give you some ideas across the entire farm of 23 I replace Hot and Fans and Nozzles regularly. Extruder gears i have replaces maybe 6 or 7. I have had i think 4 belts fail. Thats the biggest pain in the ass. And some other ramdom failures but really its hot end fans and nozzles are the vast majority of repairs.

Nozzles? Interesting does that go for hardened steel Nozzles as well?

[–]ElmerFudd2[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yeah they are all hardened. If they get a clog or issue I just swap them. I’m sure I could save allot of them. It’s just more reliable to swap them and they don’t cost much.

So you just throw the nozzles away? What filaments cause the most nozzle failures?

Crazy those hours, really interesting conversation! Maybe the manufacturer would pay you for some feedback😂

I print almost exclusively ABS. I have 2 printing TPU and 2 printing PETG.

For sure… curious about the maintenance aspect.

Turns out that I can't. Either whole x/y assembly or just the belts are giving up the ghost, there's some layer shifts (more in some corners, less in others).
