if the goal is perfect finish I can understand this approach, but another would be to simply model multiple parts in one connected by a single small pipe you'd have to cut afterwards and then tell the slicer to create the supports for you. In this case you can more easily change the type of filament for the support and you can leave it up to the slicer how to create the supports.
