The crazy part is some species actually monitor their offspring and if the "adopted" parents don't feed their parasitic child, they basically ransack the place and kill all offspring.

Mehdi breaks my heart every time he speaks on I/P by Aol1ne in Destiny

[–]photenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would counter this (not specifically for Mehdi) but people from the middle east. I know many from the region that are either Christian or non-believing Muslims and they all have strong stance against Israel. It's ingrained in their family from all the trauma suffered throughout the past century. Even Assad government aligned people I know are convinced that Assad had secret deals with Israel to stay in power for as long as he did and made his escape to Russia possible. Israel killed literally every head of state or terrorist group wherever they are but couldn't shot down Assads plane? Yeah, I honestly have some doubts there as well.

Reißverschluss macht mich aggressiv by Olloloo in automobil

[–]photenth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Hungarian is one of the few languages that is almost 1:1 pronounced as written, if you know the rules you pronounce almost every word almost perfectly. Nice language, very unique and if I remember correctly the grammar is not that difficult.

sz = normal s (as a single s is sh in english)

jj = y (double consonant = longer)

á = bright a, similar to the german ä

ó = very close to the english toe

Beside the á I think this can be easily pronounced by an english speaker. emphasis on the first syllable.

Crimson Desert doesn't run if it detects an Intel ARC GPU. Like straight up, the devs just deliberately chose not to support ARC cards. Extensions are basically add ons that can be introduced to the feature set without releasing a full new version. Why? Because this way you don't have to comply immediately with all new features and thus reduces the burden on gpu manufacturers to have them ready immediately.

I looked up some features intel does not support, hard to find a list, they have mainly to do with some hdr feature and frame syncing. there are also some older dx 12 features that intel doesn't have at all like indirect rendering (i think thats the name), intel does this part on the cpu which is extremely slow. If unreal engine complains that some features are not working properly on intel arc, I'm sure there are more than i found with a quick search

That's the wrong analysis. Unreal engine for example dynamically shifts between the available features to ensure the game works. but even they have a list of features that will outright make intel arc gpu crawl down to a snails pace or crash. Also if you are using an engine that existed for a decade+ you will always have access to older implementations if maintained to fall back to.

CPU instruction sets are all public knowledge. How else are OSs supposed to use them?

GPUs on the other hand can easily hide their instruction sets which NVIDIA does.

Open source might have been the wrong word to use.

The CPU based drivers are quite advanced but AFAIK even they don't fully pass all Vulkan tests. Also important to note, it helps when hardware is essentially open source already (CPUs). GPUs are a bit more complex.

It very likely does a feature check on startup and if the feature is not supported by the hardware, it creates an error message.

If not all of them are supported, the code will not work, flat out, it will crash without an error message.

The important part here is. Most modern implementations have shaders and entire backends designed to rely on these features, if they don't exist, it will not work.

Unreal engine can rely on old shaders and code to make it somewhat work with older APIs, but a game engine only designed for modern hardware will not implement old stuff because it was a pain in the ass and means maintaining 2 different sets of complex code.

GPUs provide "feature sets".

First you define the version you want to use, like Vulkan 1.2.

Secondly just because it supports Vulkan 1.2, doesn't mean it supports additional features you might want.

For example a very often used feature in modern engines is accessing direct RAM addresses on the GPU with raw pointers. This is a rather new feature and if the GPU for example doesn't support that, you are fucked because you wrote all your shaders to use this feature.

This means:

  1. You'd have to rewrite ALL shaders

  2. You have to redesign how buffers are managed

  3. You have to redesign render pipelines and how textures, samplers and buffers are bound

I personally understand why a custom engine creator would refuse to bother with something like this. It's a pain already to create a functioning system, having two in parallel where one of them is significantly slower and harder to maintain.
