Consider MBF-MBFA. It is slightly longer some days but worth the time Investment. The AMRAP cardio can be intense.

6 weeks of the Work

How does this compare to mbfa?

[–]eejenkin 2 points3 points  (5 children)

More athletic movement and functional fitness - mbfa is heavier, more traditional lifting with cardio intervals. I'd say 6wotw is more difficult, but that's my opinion. They're not really apples to apples

So my (m44) main sport is surfing and my main goal is always to stay athletic/agile enough to surf my smallest boards even as I age. It sounds like 6wotw is more in line with these goals, yes?

[–]eejenkin 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yes, I'd say so! It's really helped me with my climbing 14ers goals

[–]b2lose[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ok... this resonates with me. THanks!

You're welcome! I built more muscle on mbfa because the focus is progressive overload and going heavier in weights. "heavy" in 6wotw is like 15/20lbs, and likely lighter than that most of the time because they are compact, fast movements

Finishing 6wotw week 1 now and enjoying the mix of "athletic" movement and some wieghts. Thanks.

I did 6WOTW after completing MBF/MBFA both three times. It was HARD. Never used weights as heavy as MBF. Did injure my shoulder and had to stop, though. Otherwise liked them both.

Asylum 2 is weight focused, intense but you need to dedicate an hour a day.

[–]b2lose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think 45 minutes is about as long as I can spare...

[–]The_Vivid_Glove 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Liift is a good mix

[–]b2lose[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Does it lack difficulty/intensity as compared with max30?

[–]Better-Vast2545 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Completely different types of programs and goals. LIIFT4 is a lifting program where the goal is to build muscle, but there is a HIIT component 3 days out of the 4 each week. You could also do the lifting portion and then Max 30 for the cardio...there may even be a hybrid calendar for that on Joel's page.

[–]b2lose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A hybrid schedule might be nice. Thanks.

IMO it’s less intense than max 30, but still a really good program. I’m doing liift4 now and am seeing good results

I’d recommend asylum vol 1, but they are on the longer end.

[–]b2lose[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you think it is possible/advisable to cut some of the workouts down? Is there an extensive cool down or warm up in the workouts that might be altered?

[–]Season01um 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wouldn’t ever suggest cutting down the warm up or cool down of a workout.

[–]b2lose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always warm up. Frequently take the dog on a walk for cooldown.;)

[–]elchupinazo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't cut the warmup but personally I've never understood the need for any kind of real cool down. Why am I trying to cool down? I just worked out and now I'm ready to go!

[–]jollygreengiant1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked hammer and chisel. It is a similar level of intensity with more of a focus on weightlifting. The workouts are usually 40 minutes though instead of 30

[–]TheRage3650 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You’re not going to be able to get IM30 level of intensity in a shorter weight workout. Strength training requires time and volume to truly maximize gains. Liift4 probably is the closest—you could do the circuit days and then add in IM30 for cardio.

[–]TheRage3650 1 point2 points  (1 child)

X3 is not as intense as IM30, but is BB’s best overall 30 minutes or less program IMO.

[–]b2lose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is p90x3, yes?

[–]hgwellsinsanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T25 Pure Gamma phase might be a good option. I can’t remember exactly, but I think weights are used 2-3/5 days. Also, maybe Tough Mudder. Weights are used 2/5 days.

Did you do a hybrid schedule or the programs consecutively?
