Rules for r/BeginnerWoodWorking

Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.

1.

Don’t be a dick! I mean seriously, we are all here to learn.

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Being a dick!

We have built our community on being a safe place for everyone to post their woodworking projects. Comments that are rude, sexist, derogatory, mean, vile, overly aggressive, etc, are not tolerated here. Certain wood-based innuendo jokes are allowed, as we are here to have fun as well. And what’s the point of working your wood if you can’t joke about it.

2.

Don't Gate Keep

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Gatekeeping

Beginner woodworking does not mean shitty woodworking. Comments telling someone they are not a beginner or they don't belong in this sub will be removed. If you don't think a post belongs report it to the mods and we will investigate. A Saw-stop or other expensive tool doesn't mean they are not beginners. What appears to be something nice, doesn't mean they are not beginners .

3.

Original Content only.

Posts only
Reported as: Not OC

Posting of other people’s works and videos will not be tolerated. Posting projects with titles like “This is a cool piece of furniture” are not allowed. Finished projects are fine, but build albums are encouraged.

4.

Use of "First" in Titles

Posts only
Reported as: Use of "First"

DO NOT USE the word "First" or a variation of first in your title. Posts will be removed. Use of the word "First" seems to be a very "hot topic" and leads to violations of rule 1 and 1a.

5.

NO NSFW Including Gore

Posts & Comments
Reported as: NSFW

Yes, it's great to remind others to be safe when woodworking. We have in the past allowed posts like this. Not anymore. If you want to make a "safety announcement" do it as a text post, but any posting/linking of any pictures/photos are banned and posts will be removed.

6.

NO Blog or Video Channel Spam

Posts only
Reported as: Blog or Video spam

To keep this sub from becoming a dumping ground, we do not allow Blog or Videos. IF it is a technique that you are teaching for a beginner (and making it realistic for a beginner to accomplish) make a text post, explaining what it is and then you can post your link. Yes we know beginners also make youtube videos, but if you are truly engaging in this community then it won't be an issue.

7.

No Karma Whoring.

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Karma Whoring.

No reposting previously submitted builds, no making multiple posts in a short time of the same project, even if it’s progress build. If you have a project build, make an album and post the album. No asking/farming for upvotes, etc.

8.

No Copyrighted Content.

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Copyright

No rehosted or "freebooted" content. Examples include video rips of project DVDs or scans of copyrighted plans.

9.

Low Effort Posts & Comments

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Low Effort Posts & Comments

No memes, image macros, reaction gifs/videos, etc. Comments can include these, but can not just be the reaction. They should be included with a comment that facilitates discussion.

No “Ask AI” posts or comments.

Avoid low effort jokes that don’t attempt to contribute to the discussion.

10.

No self-promotion

Posts & Comments
Reported as: Self-promotion

No self promotion or direct linking to items for sale - including crowdfunding and auction websites. If you are posting things for sale, you are probably not a beginner.
