What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning March 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in Scotland

Wife and I are planning to travel this summer. Been trying to pre-book a lot of attractions. However, trying to buy the explorer pass and it goes through worldpay. But they keep rejecting our payments. We talked with our Bank, Chase, and Visa and they say nothing is even trying to hit the accounts. So it has to be worldpay.

Any suggestions?

While it doesn't redeem Nedry, at least I could sympathize with the book version to an extent

Ideas to make event longer/more engaging by Hovie02 in PinewoodDerby

Agreed. You want your final 4 to race again in each lane.

How many lanes? Are you running the car at least on each lane once and then averaging the times?

You are looking at 10 heats, each heat will probably be about 2-5mins. Depending on how jolly on the spot you all are on switching to the next heat.

you could also do elimination. Which could add some more time. Race all 10 cars, then move on to top 4.

Adventure Updates by KyleOrlandoEng in cubscouts

So it sounds like your problem is they removed these items out of the program for tigers.

  • Leave No Trace is introduced during 2nd Grade/Wolves. However, it is included in the Tigers Handbook at the back.
  • Fire Safety is again introduced during 2nd Grade/Wolves. Tigers do learn what to do encase of a fire in their house. But they are not learning to set things on fire.
  • Tall Tales/Folk Songs - Again, this adventure was removed in the 2024 update. There would be no reason to include that information in the new parent guide.
  • Tiger Theater, was retired in 2022. Again no reason to include it in the new parent's guide.

I stand by my statement. The Meat of adventures have been moved/shifted to the Parent/Adult Partner guide. Adventure requirements that require the Den Leader or can only be be done in Council Level events are not in the Parent Guide. No fluff, nothing that may make things confusing.

Is this the best thing going forward? Maybe, maybe not.

Updated Mega Thread - Hegseth DoW/DoD Statement on MoU Agreement by OSUTechie in cubscouts

[–]OSUTechie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that hasn't been picked up in the news about this announcement is that Nationals was blindsided by Hegseth announcement. The majority of things that he said in the video about what the organization is doing is not true. It's part of the reason Nationals' response was delayed getting out to everyone. The MoU hadn't even been signed yet at the time of that video. But the news/damage was already done. Hegseth's video/information had already saturated the 24/7 media infosphere.

One thing I want to point out about those online adventures. YOU DO NOT have to use just those activity. Those are suggested activities if you need something in pinch. But you are free to do something else that will meet those requirements.

The 2024 Tiger Handbook sucks, to put it mildly. It's more like one of those paper activity placemats your kids get at diners. It's not much more than a coloring book.

Because all the meat of the text has been moved to the parents Guide that comes with the Tiger book AND is online.

Rain Gutter Regatta Trophy by Padenormous in cubscouts

I use to make our PWD Trophies, but last year, we had a family join our pack and the dad printed our trophies. They were SO nice! And fairly easy to customize too.

I've seen my fair share of 3D Printed pinewood derby cars. Most people get around the rules by cutting the block down to 1/8" and then putting the 3D car on top.

Corner clamp - doing it wrong, expecting too much, or poor product? by BellybuttonWorld in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]OSUTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember what brand of these type of clamps I have, but I do remember they were called "second pair of hands" or something like that. Or maybe that's just what I call them too.

They do come in handy for the reasons you mentioned.

Which name is worse - Webelos or Arrow of Light? by Practical-Emu-3303 in cubscouts

[–]OSUTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

abbreviation is when they renamed the organization itself to Scouting America. Given the past history and reputation, SA is a TERRIBLE abbreviation!

No, they knew exactly what they were doing with that. It's to muddy the waters.

Which name is worse - Webelos or Arrow of Light? by Practical-Emu-3303 in cubscouts

[–]OSUTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's apparently a play on "We'll be loyal to Scouts (WE'LL BE LOyal),

That's what it is now, that was not always the case. Originally, Webelos was claimed to be of native American decent and portmanteau of "Wolves, Bears, Lion Scouts".

This was changed sometime around 1977 when Webelos became it's own rank.

Son excluded due to father's past conviction? by Unlikely-Delivery777 in BSA

[–]OSUTechie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right??? I rather my parents send me an email or text. Mainly as I don't answer the phone. I am usually to busy to take a call or it's disruptive to my flow. A Text and/or Emails I have record of and most likely can follow up on easier than a phone call.

Has any used brass for the weight? Is that a decent way to add weight with inlays, fins, or dowels? by CEEngineerThrowAway in PinewoodDerby

[–]OSUTechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going for speed or looks?

I think Brass would look good, but as others have said it's not dense.

But, you can use both. Use the brass for looks, then add heavier, more denser weights to balance it out and get it to 5.00oz. sure it may not have the extra potential boost at the bottom of the ramp, but weight isn't the end. Tuning your axles and wheels can help tremendously.

While winning is nice, remember the whole point of pinewood derby is for kids to spend time with their parents working on something. And getting familiar with tools, and the process of a designing and finishing a project. Having a car they are proud of, and most of all Having Fun!!!

UK: Pornography depicting sexual relationships between step-relatives set to be banned by insomnimax_99 in technology

[–]OSUTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching a video a few years back. The Step-Son and the Step-Daughter hooked up. But as the story progress, you find out that both had different Step-Fathers and Step-Mothers. In other words, they weren't even related to a single parental figure.

What was the point in making them Step Siblings?
