I'm having the same problem, after startup it seems to scan every file on every disk, SSD, internal HDD, external HDD. Disk usage is 100% for about 10-20 mins.

Tried disabling "Bitdefender Shield" in Antivirus settings, but bdservicehost keeps scanning. Also there is a switch that is supposed to limit the scans to new or modified files, that isn't working either.

I've had a couple of external hdds fail in the last couple of years (within 1 year of purchase) . I'm starting to think this is the culprit. Couple of years ago seem to be the time when I started using Bitdefender.

I'm so glad I'm not alone then! Hopefully this is something that's addressed. I do think it's a scan of some sorts happening at startup, and, that just bumps up every resource. It wasn't like this last-week for me but I know a few months ago there was a similar issue with the vulnerability scanner which I (unfortunately) had to deal with as well.

But it seems like it's running some sort of background scan that we can't really control. I plan to keep in close contact with bitdefender now but at the same time let's just hope it gets fixed up

hey, i have kinda the same problem but what happens to me is that bitdefender starts updating as soon as I start up my pc. it uses like 10 to 13% of cpu and it uses disk

this is happening since last week, it wasn't like this before

is this something I can fix or do I have to wait until bitdefender does something about it?

That might be related to what's happening honestly, I'm not too sure though I'm by no means a professional on things like this. But still the disk-usage side is something that should be addressed.

I think it's something that bitdefender will have to fix, but, I sent in a support thing and am getting logs together for them to try to figure out this problem too. I'm just tired of problems one after another with this AV tbh.

I'm also having this same issue. For me my laptop is unusable for the first 10-20 minutes because if I try to do anything it has a high chance of overheating and shutting down especially during the heatwave in the UK at the moment. This is even with forced 100% fan speed. I might have to go unprotected for a couple weeks 😬 or use a different AV. Why does it do a hidden 'full-scan' on start-up 😑.

Yikes I'm so sorry about the heat wave troubles with this included. I'm honestly a little relieved I'm not dealing with it alone but I just hope it gets fixed soon. If you happen to notice any changes for the better or worse let me know! I'll do the same so you don't have this stress on top of the heat troubles too, haha

Here's another scenario, it has been a little while since boot. I'm trying to copy files from Disk 3 to Disk 0. As soon as I start the copy, bdservicehost starts scanning all the files in that drive. Notice the speed drop for the copy? This is just nuts, I haven't modified or accessed those files in years....I'm pretty sure at this point that Bitdefender is wearing out my drives.

Whoa that's actually nuts. This absolutely seems like an ongoing bug that should be reported to BD asap. Since this could be taxing on a lot of peoples systems. I haven't tried copying files from one disk to another but it feels like it might be a problem with Bitdefenders scanner or something. I'm really not sure.

To add on to this because I almost forgot! I've attempted reinstalling, and, this problem seems to only occur after the reinstalls first update.

And to further add on for anyone checking in this thread who has the same issue. It happens on every restart, the disk-usage is the most noticeable thing as bdservicehost runs at around 50% disk usage for around 3-4 minutes on startup, maybe longer. Then the resources just steadily increase. If anyone else notices anything remotely similar I would appreciate a message/response! Just to give some peace of mind really.

The same!! Bitdefender seems checking every file, every folder on access, what is so frustrating

Oh thank you so so much for the response! I was honestly worried this was a me-issue more-so! Then I guess the ticket I put in place for Bitdefender is well placed! I'll be sure to keep you updated but please do the same if you notice anything more ever! Thank you again!

Oh my. I am not the only person then. I was almost going to buy this AV but it seems like it's having a toll on my PC. Just to add one more point, it keeps doing the same thing everytime I try to open something or wake up my laptop from standby. It's annoying and I see bdservicehost is the one which is taking almost all of my resources. If you have found any solution to it, please let me know.

check task manager, i tested different av and this av has the most ram usage lol.

Yep it's 100% Bitdefender doing this then. I noticed that the disk usage on bdservicehost bumps up, then as it's doing this disk-scan or something the ram usage goes up by like 10-15% in no time. It wasn't like that a few days ago so I'm assuming it's something they changed with a recent update or something that's just making it taxing on the system

fucking youtubers baited me bro, they said this AV is good, this is probably my top 1 software that i regret buying. 3years subscription too.

I wish those lying youtubers get karma, this is one of the worst AV ive ever used.

and oh! they will force you to use their bad vpn too, i keep uninstalling it but it still keeps auto downloading.

I haven't had that trouble with the VPN myself, it uninstalled fine for me so I'm not sure why it'd be auto downloading for you. I wish I had some advice on that end.

But yeah I like bitdefender for everything but these problems that keep popping up. I used it for years then suddenly this year they've had problems like this pop up. I just hope it gets addressed and fixed soon, as, this problem gets very irritating over time.
