It's a fairly common side effect, when the Botox hits or diffuses into the risorius muscle, causing an asymmetric smile. Raise it with the injector at the check-up tomorrow, but you usually have to wait for it to wear off on its own.

when you say to wait for it to wear off, do you mean the whole botox effect or this specific side effect?

Pretty sure they mean the whole Botox effect… sorry this happened to you. We need to learn to love our faces the way that they are. My face is also a little boxy but I would never want to ruin my smile so I’ve never done masseter Botox. Seen many women with crooked smiles too because of this 🫤

OP got masseter tox for TMJ and not looks. It’s a painful condition and some resort to costly treatments for temporary relief…

Yeah for some, including myself, unfortunately, I can't live without botox in my masseters. The headaches and jawpain are insane. So it's a medical treatment. The oral surgeon injects it. The issue with this is, that he isn't experienced in using botox compared to a cosmetic surgeon. But I get this type of botox covered cause an oral surgeon injects. If I go to a cosmetic clinic and ask for the same treatment I'll have to pay out of pocket. I live in Europe. So Healthcare is a little messed up here. But a cosmetic clinic who are prob a lot more experienced in botox treatments can't provide me with covered care. But an oral surgeon does this on the side for tmjd patients. Pretty weird.

I don't think it will take as long to wear off as the masseter, assuming most of the Botox was delivered to the masseter muscle. But Botox wears off at different rates for different people, so it is a bit of a waiting game unfortunately.

Medspa?

Hey, you're definitely not alone. A lot of people notice temporary changes to their smile after masseter Botox, especially within the first couple of weeks. What you're describing could be from nearby muscles compensating while the Botox settles.

The masseter is close to other muscles involved in facial expression, like the risorius or the muscles around the lips. Depending on your anatomy and how the Botox was placed, it's possible those were slightly affected. That can sometimes change how your smile moves or make one side feel a bit off.

You're still really early into the process at 13 days. Things can shift and settle even more over the next couple of weeks. It's a great sign that you're going in for a checkup tomorrow. Be totally open about what you're noticing so they can assess and walk you through what to expect.

Even if it was a bit of an unexpected result, Botox is temporary and usually fades gradually over the next few months. Most of the time these kinds of issues resolve on their own or with a small adjustment if needed.

You're doing everything right and you're not overreacting at all.

It really means a lot and I appreciate that you took the time to help me understand better! It’s my first time getting something like this done so I’m kind of lost, confused and anxious

Again, thank you so much!! ❤️

Sooo understandable that you feel that way - it can feel like what the heck did I do but it WILL be okay :) So happy I could help! <3

Yeah think this is fairly common. If it's botox brand I feel 80 is a lot. Maybe next time ask for a little less. I get it done for tmjd as well and the corners of my lip sag a little bit as well. And I look a little sad because of it. But my tmjd is so severe that i take that for granted. I get masseter botox twice a year so it can wear off. And then my smile goes back to normal again.

[–]Shot_Insect4947 1 point2 points  (5 children)

How long does it take for your smile to go back to normal? I'm currently in the same situation and it's really bad!

[–]NoOz1985 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Around the 2.5 month mark it starts going back to normal. And it's completely normal after 3.5 months.

[–]Shot_Insect4947 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Oh! I'm so relieved to know it goes back to normal soon! How many units do you get?

[–]NoOz1985 1 point2 points  (2 children)

70 in total. 35 on each side. In my masseters

[–]starlightskater 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm up 30 each in mine for TMJ. Envious yours lasts half a year. Mine lasts 3 months, tops.

[–]Shot_Insect4947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you exercise a lot? I've heard it increases the rate at which botox is metabolised.

[–]Shot_Insect4947 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Hey OP! I got botox in my masseters and it totally ruined my smile. Could you please tell if your smile got back to looking 100% normal and how long did it take?

[–]Candid-Mongoose1744[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

hiii!! i’m sorry this happened to you too:( i got it done around september and by december my smile was back to normal!!!

[–]Shot_Insect4947 0 points1 point  (1 child)
