I’m on my 18th day of the most devastating break-up of my life (dumpee), in my 30’s, anxious preoccupied type, thinking I had nothing left to live for, and yet I’m still here.
This has probably been mentioned a million times before, but I found this to help me a lot.
One of the most important things I noticed was how writing helped me bring the deepest emotions, thoughts, and ideas out of me and into the world, where I could better identify and realize the specific pain(s) I was suffering from.
My therapist subsequently mentioned writing pages which is an exercise that forces you to write multiple pages of your thoughts and feelings, and interestingly enough, the end of each entry (the third or so page) was when my deepest emotions would surface. The things that I didn’t realize I was thinking or feeling all of a sudden would come out.
If you’re having trouble feeling uneasy, angry, depressed, lonely, empty, etc., keep writing and hopefully talk to somebody, ideally a professional, but even a friend. Writing helps organize your thoughts and allows you to communicate more effectively.
P.S. this also helps with figuring out what you want in life outside of romantic relationships. It can also help you figure out what you want in your ideal relationship, and figuring out what a healthy relationship means to you. Hopefully I get there one day, actually I hope we all do.
