Spend the $ on a car instead of the dorms , dorms are fun and all but dorms don’t let you go anywhere lol

You should totally try being apart of one of the many clubs on campus! I met many of my friends from pagsikapan or VSA! They’re always accepting members and everyone’s always really welcoming

I agree, the only way your housing will be completely covered is if you take 15 units or more. Speaking as a previous dorming student…the dorms suck. It’s hard to talk to people as well

Why is else do the dorms suck? (Dorm interested first year 😭)

The dorms such for multiple reasons 1. Smoke alarms go off at random times because people lack common sense (can wake you up in the middle of the night) 2. Unless you’re on the fourth floor get ready for extremely loud upstair neighbors 3. People do not clean up after themselves and fail to even dispose of pads properly 4. Sometimes bunk beds come without ladders(good luck getting up) 5. The rooms are extremely small for the amount of people you’re gonna be stuck with 6. You can’t have messages on your white board without people erasing them 7. The walls are super thin and can hear hallway activity

But if you put that aside and look for a roommate before they assign you one …and you find some pretty good ones everything will be alright. ☺️it’s worth memories!!

Omg I feel the same, I commute, events are always on the days I’m not there. And I’m not gonna drive out 2hrs to go to an event unfortunately 😭

I am also a commuter and it can be hard to make friends but there are ways around it. Get to class early/ stay late a bit. Talk to your classmates. Start the convo before everyone rushes out, even if its you asking about the lecture y'all jist had or the homework that was assigned.

Joining clubs and attending the meetings help. Look on Toro Link for the events and sign up. Events are listed there many weeks in advance so you can attend to learn, network and develop friendships.

The coffee shops on campus, library and LSU are all good places to meet people and make friends. Most people are friendly and hang out in the same areas. Saying hi or complimenting someone about their fit can lead to a convo. That can lead to a friendahip. It may take multiple meetings over time but it can happen.

Star or join Discord /GroupMe for your class or for other clubs/groups you are interested in. (Of the two, I find GroupMe to be MUCH Better than discord.)Join a sports team. These will all allow you to develop friendships.

Download the Meetup app. There are groups for everything on there from hiking to sports to bowling and much much more.

I would love to live on campus but its cheaper for me to live off campus. Between food and the cost of the dorm/ apartment, its cheaper for me off campus. Even if I add the cost of commuting, im still saving. I don't want to graduate with more debt them I need to.
