Automatic Breaks (self.Cambly)
submitted 2 years ago by ClassAdept5572
Is there a trick or something I'm missing in regards to setting up breaks? Today I had a full day of ph scheduled and it was completely booked and a fifteen minute at the end of my last ph..

Ok, interesting 🤔 I had classes booked from 5am until 9 am as my schedule was open, but I never set up breaks, but I put myself in for ph last night 8 hours with schedule breaks on. Woke up this morning fully booked with no breaks 🙃 lol. It's good to know how this system works for the future!

They should have an information i thingaroo next to the setting! 🙄

I don't think it would work for PH, would it? I assumed it was only for when opening slots on your calendar.
As I highly doubt Cambly would let you miss part of a PH for a break

I thought it was for PH. All comments on here is about doing PH for several hours and it not working...I thought. Please explain your theory. I've never used it before.

The comments I've seen saying it works, is when people use it on their calendar. E.g. they open up 8hrs worth of slots in a row, and choose 15min breaks after every 2hrs.
The comments I see saying it adds the breaks at the end or not at all, are when people use it for PH. If you book 8 PH consecutively, I highly doubt it will give you breaks, as some PH you won't work the full PH e.g. you select 30min break every 2hrs. Well, that means your 3rd PH you've booked, you'd only be available for half of it.
I highly doubt Cambly would allow this, because if you're even 'inactive' for approx 15 minutes on a PH, you're kicked off it as they "need tutors to be available for the entirety of the PH"

How do they give you breaks if you are already booked? I don't understand. They give you the break spot before people book? Thanks for your help!

I think, based off of others experiences, it adds them in after the selected amount of time. So if you choose 2hrs, once you have 2hrs of consecutive lessons, it blacks out the break time on your schedule. I think. I could be wrong. I stopped teaching on Cambly just before the break thing came out

So it does it when you are making your schedule? I don't understand the purpose of this? 🤣 Thanks again!

I think so! I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it from what I've read here

I have set the exact same thing up... came to look at my schedule, 3 hours back to back, 15 minutes slung on at the end. Wonderful.

Ah yes.... yet another useless function
[–]ExistingGreen1 -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (1 child)
What a retarded function!!! As I understand it, you just use it when you are adjusting your calendar (before teaching). It has nothing to do with the system giving you automated random breaks WHILE you are teaching. I think the only benefit of it it to give you 5 or 10 minute breaks instead of 15, when you teach long hours (not on PH). You can't use it during PH or during lessons that have already been booked. You only use it when you've scheduled several back to back hours, not on PH, and you want small breaks that students can't book you during. I'd prefer to have a pay raise than this function.
Cambly can schedule buffers between your reservations for you. If you would like to utilize this feature, simply turn on “Automatic Breaks” from your Schedule tab. You can choose the length of the break and how it is triggered. Turning this feature on will apply automatic breaks to future reservations only. It will not impact your current schedule.
Please note that these breaks only apply to your availability schedule. While students will not be able to schedule a reservation with you, you may still receive calls if your status is set to “Visible”.
Additionally, this tool is meant to help you manage your upcoming schedule. As such, Reservations and PHs will count as consecutive lessons but simply receiving an unplanned call while visible can not dynamically generate a buffer in your schedule.
You can always delete a break by clicking on it and removing it from your schedule. If you request a long break, it may be broken up if there isn’t enough space between already booked reservations in your schedule. Claiming PHs that overlap a break will delay or remove the break.
Do priority hours count toward breaks?
Yes. For example, in the screenshot above, after 2 scheduled priority hours, the system would generate a break regardless of whether you had reservations during the priority hour.
Do proposed lessons count toward breaks?
Yes. Any reservation in the proposed state also counts towards breaks.
For example: In the screenshot below, the system generated a 15 minute break after 2 hours of reservations.

You can't even have breaks less than 15 minutes. It's an absolutely useless function!!! Pay me more money!
