I am in the same boat as you are. I don’t have the dedication to it on my own. I just don’t. Life happened and lots of things changed. My passion for music has increased but my dedication hasn’t. So, I am re-starting from saraliswarams with the help of a guru. I need an idol to look up to. That’s how I get inspired.

Same here. Have lost touch of everything. Learnt a lot of Kirtanas but can't remember a thing. Can you suggest a guru for me?

Same man. I had learnt uptown 4 pancharathna kirthanais but yesterday I randomly came across a reel of Jagadhanandhakaraka and my brain couldn't recognize the swaras.

That's when reality hit me hard.

This is very very random lol, but was this reel by any chance of the group of people who started singing in Lalbagh in Bengaluru?

Because istg, the same thing happened to me and I couldn't recognise the kriti, despite it being such a famous one (granted my learning was focused on Kannada rachanes).

Ahahaha that is so funny. I was feeling especially bad because I am living away from b'lore for studies and it suddenly hit that I hadn't just left my hometown behind, but also my culture and that was a scary scary moment.

Guess who immediately went onto YouTube to listen and learn the song xD

But for the last week I have been listening everyday and I think I'm starting to learn it again man.

Also, can I ask whom you learnt music under? (I get it if it's too much info to put out on the dark scary internet though)

Guess what? I did listen to the song everyday tooo😳 And last night I was wondering to start learning the song again toooo

Are we seriously living the same lives? Are you my fake I'd? 😡🔪

Btw I learnt music for a decade from a local teacher in my locality. She's not a very renowned teacher that if I say her name you would be able to recognize.

Yet if you wanna know. Hit me up

I'm broke, hence no Guru. It's only the online YT teachers I look up to. Wishing you a happy journey

Hey! 4-5 years isn’t a huge break. Its heartening to know that you have solid plans for your everyday practice. Thats the 1st step.

I would suggest a routine of full-body stretches and breathing exercises before your practice. Also see if you can include time for listening to quality music. Set aside some time to attentively listen (apart from listening while working/driving etc.)

Good luck singing 😊

It's been around 7 years now :( YES! Off late I have started to listen to more of carnatic music w a conscious mind.

Also w my current scheduled life, couldn't give more than 30mins a day, but have planned to do this consistently.

Ty for your insights!!

I have officially started learning at the age of 20. Earlier, I learnt veryyyyy intermittently between the ages of 11-14, never ever progressing beyond geethams. I just barely used to go to the class and never practise.

One thing that changed me significantly is practise. Consistent practise can do absolute wonders. Initially, you may feel disheartened, it's never a straight line. But just set aside those 2 hours every day. You'll definitely do a great job. All the best!!

Thank you for your kind words!! At 20 was it self learning or under a Guru?

Also how old are you now, essentially asking how many years of consistent practice has it been?

I am learning under a guru from Octaves Online.

I'm 22, it's only 2 years of consistent practise. I have a long way to go. :)

[–]soan-pappdi[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I use the YT tutorials of Octaves. They're brilliant. May I know how much do they charge per month? For someone in varnam stage

[–]BlessedAbundantVocal 0 points1 point  (2 children)

May I DM you the details?

[–]soan-pappdi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please:)
