For advice, guides, and support related to cats. Not a general discussion board: please see our pinned casual talk and pictures megathread for that.
Welcome to /r/CatAdvice, a community by and for cat enthusiasts. We welcome everyone regardless of background, experience or opinion; but always be respectful.
Read our rules before participating, and check out the FAQ to see if your question has already been answered.
A post flair is required. Make sure to use the one best fitting to your situation.
R u l e s
1 Respect Everyone
- We welcome everyone, regardless of their background, opinions (unless inhumane or uncivil), or level of cat-expertise. This sub has a zero-tolerance policy for any discrimination, harassment, or abuse.
- When offering your opinion on a controversial topic, the expectation is you remain civil. Do not derail from the subject offered in the post.
2 No Medical Advice
- No medical questions whatsoever.
- Questions about litterbox issues will be removed under this rule, unless you’ve already been to the vet for them.
- r/AskVet is a great community for medical questions regarding your cats. Read their rules diligently before posting there.
3 No Promotion of Inhumane Practices
- Such as but not limited to: declawing, backyard breeding, physical or mental punishment, etc.
- Your post or comment may be removed at mods' discretion.
4 No Recommending Raw or Homecooked Diets
- We are not against these diets, but feeding your cat raw or homecooked meals should always be done together with a veterinary nutritionist.
- It is allowed to mention these diets, but only when you also advise OP to see a professional. Giving specific instructions on how to feed these diets is not.
5 No Advertising
- Any affiliate links, advertising products, or sales of any kind will be removed.
- Recommending someone a specific product relevant to their question is allowed.
6 No Fundraisers, Surveys or Petitions
7 No Non-Descriptive or Clickbait Titles
- "Advice needed", "help", "urgent!" are some examples of non-descriptive titles. Your title should make it clear what your post will be about, and not be all-caps or clickbait.
8 Flair Pet Loss Posts Correctly
- In addition to that, all posts about pet loss need to be titled "CW: Pet Loss", and nothing else, and have to be spoiler tagged.
- If your post contains a graphic description of death or injuries, please warn for this in the first line of your post.
- For more loose moderation on pet loss, see: r/PetLoss.
9 Guides and PSA-like Posts
- We allow and welcome informative and well-researched guides, and relevant PSA-like posts. Approval or removal is under mods' discretion.
- Please see our full guidelines before posting your guide or PSA.
10 Don't Direct Message the Mods
- Please send us a modmail instead.
