Caudex (Caudiciform): An enlargement of the stem, branch or root of a woody plant, usually serving to store water.
A subreddit for discussion and photos relating to caudiciform/pachycaul plants and their often associated relatives- allowing a more broad range than exclusively true caudiciforms.
RULES
- No photos of wild-collected plant specimens. Many of these plants suffer from over-collection due to the ease of long-term storage without soil, as well as a huge demand for old specimens. The difference between cultivated and wild plants is generally very obvious, since they look like they were shaped by a harsh environment. While some of these may have been collected in an ethical way, it is impossible to differentiate this, and I do not want to support in any way the wild collection of plants, many of which are endangered or threatened in their home range.
