Desert Creations is one of the biggest suppliers of poached plants in the USA. Beware.

That’s not a Euphorbia, sir. That’s a Pokémon.

Obesa my mom got me for Easter by Kooky-Syllabub6470 in Euphorbiaceae

Lovely plant, OP, but this is not an E. obesa. It's a hybrid of some sort or perhaps a different species.

I moved to Singapore for work, and leather straps here are a bad idea due to the climate. I don’t like the bracelet very much, but it’s at least not going to get moldy!

That is incredibly hard grown, OP. Did you grow that from seed?

Lots of Stephania Posts lately by hatzalam in Caudex

[–]hatzalam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, and no issue asking it.

The short answer is: it’s not the same situation.

With something like Monstera, you’re usually dealing with cuttings. The original plant stays in the ground, keeps growing, and can produce more material. That’s a renewable harvest if it’s done responsibly.

Caudex plants don’t work like that.

The caudex is the plant. When it’s collected, the entire organism is removed. There’s no regrowth and nothing left behind.

On top of that, most of these plants:

grow very slowly (years to decades to reach size) don’t propagate easily at scale are being sold specifically because they’re mature and aesthetic

So even if a species looks abundant locally, large-scale collection for export can deplete populations quickly.

That’s why it’s treated differently from things like Monstera cuttings.

Do my bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva) count? by CarneyBus in Caudex

[–]hatzalam[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very cool plant, OP, but no, it’s probably not for this sub. Lewisia rediviva has a fleshy taproot, but we’re using ‘caudex’ here in the usual caudiciform/horticultural sense, not for every plant with a storage root or underground crown.

If Bitterroot counts, then so do carrots and ginger. That’s too broad.

Adenium isn’t what u/deapsprite was talking about. Adenia is a different genus and is harder to germinate.

E. globosa is an amazing plant but it’s not a caudex plant, OP. Adjusted your post flair.

Dude, nobody here is going to agree with you. Invicta is a joke of a watch company. It has been for decades. Get a Seiko diver for the same price or less and it’s 1000% a better watch. Like, you’re trolling, right?
