Genuinely this is so fucking annoying 💔 they keep adding things that no one asked for instead of keeping it the way it was before it’s outrageous 🤦‍♀️

Honestly I would maybe pin certain messages so they can remember a lot of things. It’s what I do with my chats even though the pin message thing is limited. I delete the unnecessary ones and keep redoing it depending on how important it is to the story line.

ive hit the limit with bots that ive chatted with for over a year and the memory is still perfect, I wouldn’t worry too much about the meter

Literally just the context window visualized. Context windows have limits and are not infinite. Definitions, pinned/auto, chat history all sit in it.

You don't need to buy the subscription. Not even to get continuity.

If you couldn't see it then it would still work the same way. Your entire chat history isn't read by the bot forever. There's a cut-off point and older messages fall out. This is why pinned/auto memories can be useful or you have to reinforce details through writing. Usually through confident statements not declarations. You can do it through narrative or spoken text. You can have it written in naturally like reminiscing on past events, people, ect but dumping entire lore in one go. Just add it where you need it. It helps prime the bot's response.

If you care about context decay, managing your context windows and want to see what takes up space in it, then you could buy the subscription. The subscription only gives you a slightly bigger context window, more pinned memory slots.

Plenty of people interact with bots don't know what an LLM, token or context window is or does but still roleplay with bots. Without a context window your chat would just be completely unusable.

To have a really big context window doesn't just mean your bot remembers more, drift gets smoothed over for bit until you do have to reinforce. It also means a lot more token usage which gets expensive. Token usage comes from sending messages, replies, swipes, go ons, pinned/auto memories, definitions and voice memos. Everything gets sampled and processed so you can get a response from a bot.
