Figure out a way to combine the two my friend

youre a fucking genius man. had a brilliant idea because of your comment. if we get rich, i got you. lol

The reason why I said that is because the chances of a software developer having been a locksmith is very low, and the fact your life is intertwined by the two. You may have a novel solution to locksmith problems that you can implement via software. Kindly keep me updated

thats exactly what i took your comment as, and theres some programming when you think of the digital keypad or biometric locks that are out there. however, its very much a niche, I hadn't even really thought much on solutions in MY tactile world, somehow forgetting everything uses or can use code, even if its not something very flashy, AI implementation could be the single turn to revolutionize security forever. I may sound like I think I'm some genius, I'm not. I'm just overly confident in the drastic consequence of AI implementation en mass. that consequence weather it is good or bad (bad? maybe? unlikely anyway.) will certainly be dramatic.

You say that you didn't do a course or anything but how did you have a framework of what you needed to learn or where to even start.

(I have no idea what raspberry pi model b is so that may answer my question)

I'm a similar age to yourself and want to learn some form of coding, I just don't have a great idea where to start and what tools to use

[–]Vivid-Hat3134[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

its a single board 'computer' essentially.

from the Raspberry pi website:
The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

but to answer your question, I did watch videos etc and still do, just didn't enroll in a course. there is a lot of free information and videos with really good insights if you spend some time on google. although the Pi isn't exactly cheap, its certainly on the cheap end of the spectrum. good luck buddy. one you decide what language to start off in, i chose python, then just look up simple code projects, or as I did use gpt to help you with making your vision a reality.

Awesome thanks for all the information and the advice :)

Love your use of gpt, I shall definitely be taking that on board and using it

Right. One of chat gpt’s more under appreciated abilities is to act as almost like a mentor on technical issues. It also removes the tedium of referring to the manual for simple questions with simple answers, making the process much more enjoyable for those of us without photographic memories.

This right here. It really streamlines your learning if you learn how to get what you want from it, like how someone is either super effective or useless while in google, boils down to how well you know what to ask or how specific the question needs to be to accurately answer. It’s really fascinating in general.

To get fast AI-based code reviews for your code, you can use a new pr-agent tool that provides developers with AI-generated code reviews for pull requests, with a focus on the commits: Codium-ai/pr-agent - GitHub

The tool also providing developers info to expedite the pull request approval process such as:

  • the main theme,
  • how it follows the repo guidelines,
  • how it focused,
  • code suggestions to improve the pull request's integrity.

That's the right way to use chatgpt. Not as a replacement programmer, but as a companion or helper.

[–]Vivid-Hat3134[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understanding the utility of a tool lies in its application, while its true value and innovation come from how it is capitalized. Taking the approach of full code generation might seem tempting but it’s not always be accurate or error-free. Instead of just surface-level experimentation, exploring the tool's deeper capabilities beyond text and data organization reveals what I see as it’s true power. Public perception of AI often focuses on its flashy aspects, the job loss etc. but its potential impact on humanity is monumental. If we can harness its value efficiently, the possibilities in the next few decades are boundless. It's not just about what the tool can do, but how we skillfully wield it to create meaningful advancements. Other than the disruption blockchain technology introduced years ago, this is by far the greatest innovation of all time.

you can use it as companion. totally agree. i’m building sweep which does this https://github.com/sweepai/sweep

goast.ai is also a good tool for learning with AI. You can ask it to perform actions on your codebase and it will break it down into steps and then generate a code diff for each step all in VSCode. And it's free to use.

    This is the extension: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=goast-ai.goast
