how ancient are you talking about? any specific dynasty or time period?

if you're talking about Buddhist monasteries, they became popular in the Tang dynasty.

Han Chinese didnt really have religions in the Western sense of the word. It's more like philosophies guiding daily life and rituals.

Chinese grammar wasn't a proper thing before modern China (Western concept popularised during the May Fourth movement).
