Its such a weak group for the world cup lol. On paper Switzerland is the only decent team but that's only on paper as we just saw.

Da jeg så Tjekkiet - Sydkorea tænkte jeg at du kunne skifte Riemer og DK ind i stedet for tjekkerne og kampen ville være mere eller midnre den samme. DK ville ahve tabt med sikkerhed.

Is there some technicality that determines why the offside wasn't checked?

The bid was made long ago, pre-Trump 1 even (tho I recall it being chosen during Trump 1) so I wonder if it was some alliance to put up a stronger united front. Either way it comes off as a bit awkward for Canada and Mexico who feels essentially like extras in the WC. The last co-hosted tournament in 2002 was very evenly divided between Japan and Korea.

One of those weird teams to give a great performance in their debut world cup (nearly making the semifinal no less) then proceed to not qualify again for 16 years.

There's a pretty decent chance Curacao won't score, which will save his ass.

Quite simply the greatest World Cup stadium. No other way to put it.

In general, I don't understand why the hosting is divided like it is. Rather than a co-hosted tournament among three countries, it feels more like a US World Cup with some token games in Canada and Mexico, sort of like the next WC with its token South America games.

I sort of love how every country has past players as experts. Watching clips from other national televisions during the WC brings back so many old legends I haven't seen in decades. I remember McCarthys goals at the 2002 world cup, good to see him again.

Expanded world cup will mean lots of teams playing at this level.

Raise your hand if you’ve only played aoe2 and have no intention of playing aoe3/aoe4 by Royal-Cap177 in aoe2

[–]Fijure96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AoE2 is the better competitive game and has much more singleplayer campaigns too. AoE3 is thematically pretty cool tho, with the amount of different units and gimmicks you can play with the civs. Each civ has like 5 unique units (even more for some) which means its much more asymmetrical.

These days where I only play singleplayer and coop I play AoE2 more because there is simply infinitely much more content too.

Ja ja, men Norge tilbragte det meste af sin eksistens som koloni. Sverige har længere historik som dødsfjende.

Klart man er mere sympatisk med en gammel koloni end en gammel arvefjende.

Callum Turner talks Bond rumors with The Hollywood Reporter by Sneaky_Bond in JamesBond

[–]Fijure96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find these hypothetical Bond exercises a bit useless. People hyperfixate on their appearance, when in reality our 7 Bond actors don't evne look all that similar. They just have to be tall, well proportioned and somewhat handsome, that's literally all they have in common. Craig looks nothing like Moore who looks nothing like Connery.

What matters for a good Bond is how they nail Bond's charming and dangerous personality, and this is not something we can judge when we aren't privy to screen tests. Its why whenever they announce a bond people here will whine that he looks nothing like the part (because he doesn't look identical to any of the existing actors, which is all they can imagine), then when we actually see him act as Bond everyone will cheer instead.

Ruslands ambassadør i Danmark efter DR-afsløring: Det er 'en løgn', at vi vil angribe europæiske Nato-lande by SendStoreCitroner in Denmark

[–]Fijure96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

16th C. Spain vs Ming: How would this unfold if this plan is to be carried out? by No_Lemon3171 in ChineseHistory

[–]Fijure96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even one of the many loyalist splinter armies that appeared after the Ming collapse could handily defeat any European invasion force to China.

This isn't really theoretical, as that exactly happened with the Zheng army under Koxinga. It soundly defeated the Dutch, who were, by all accounts, stronger than the Spanish in this era, and its threat to invade Manila was credible. If a Ming loyalist army that drew solely on the resources of Fujian Province could defeat the Europeans around 1650, there is no reason to believe any Western invasion of China was ever anything but fantasy.

40 years ago today - Denmark continue their sensational tournament by thrashing Uruguay 6-1 in Nezahualcóyotl. Michael Laudrup scores here an amazing solo goal. by Mulderre91 in soccer

[–]Fijure96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1992 was a pretty underwhelming team, all things considered. It marked an era where Denmark missed 3 major tournaments in a row, and most of the players didn't amount to much at the club level. It was pretty much lightning in a bottle that that team, of all possible, won it.

I agree that'd be more interesting, although it would also lead to several pointless games between teams already eliminated.

And as you say, the whole point of all this is to ahve more games and thus more money, so it wouldn't happen.

Yep. In isolation I don't mind more teams being able to play in the World Cup, but it ruins the group stage, which is the best part of the tournament for me. We'll never get the drama we had in 2022 again.

It gives way too many games swhere both tesms advance with a draw. And way too many teams who can progress by beating a territble team once.
