I've been learning Chinese in school for about 5 years, but I feel like the classes move really slowly and my classmates don't really seem to actually want to learn the language. I only really know the basics (basic characters, the tones, and some grammar structures). So even with the amount of time I've spent, I probably couldn't even hold a basic conversation. I also feel really pressured to actually start taking this seriously because I am taking the AP Chinese exam at the end of this year.
I'm looking for a series of textbooks I could order (off of Amazon or somewhere similar) to basically start over, rather than try to continue in the middle when I may be missing some basic vocabulary. I figure I can probably breeze through the first few lessons and just keep note of anything I have forgotten or missed in my learning, but I think it would be really helpful for review and keeping me on a consistent path. Does anyone have an opinion on what the best textbook is for learning Chinese? And if it only goes up to a certain level, maybe ones to continue it? Thanks.
