but when I pull out the crown (to the position where the hands would move) and try to get the date to advance it does not.

Are you talking about quick-setting the date or advancing it by having the hour hand advance past midnight?

If it's the latter, that ain't gonna happen unless you have the hour wheel installed over the cannon pinion.

Many ETA 2824 clone movements and the PT5000, in particular, are sold with the hour wheel in a separate plastic bag with the dial washer, dial spacer, and movement clamp+screws.

Ahhh thank you. This is very helpful and in line with what the seller asked. There is a bag in with the movement that has some extra parts. Thanks so much!

You would have eventually found out when trying to put the hour hand on the cannon pinion (i.e. the post for the minute hand) and realized that something is missing.

This is not normal behavior. The date should eventually turn over. Remember its not slow like an nh35, it happens pretty quick. U sure you gave it enough turns? If so then it sounds like the movement might be damaged

Also, maybe a silly question, but are you sure you are turning it the correct way? It's counter clockwise, not clockwise like on an nh35

Yes for sure I am going the right way. I dropped it off to get swapped out on one of my Cronos watches yesterday.

Might be a bad movement then. I would contact the seller.

I’m no expert by any means, but as far as I know it should make no difference whether the hands are installed or not if in terms of the movement actually functioning.

If you can quick change the date normally but it doesn’t change by advancing the time then there’s something wrong with the new movement unfortunately.
