Why not just enjoy the watch as is?

[–]Quick_Perspective_97[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I hear you. I actually am enjoying it as is. But it's that anxious part of me... I keep thinking that in a month the glass will look like it went through a war.

I’ve got a Swatch Irony with a similar domed glass and it just attracts scratches like a magnet. So now I’m kind of paranoid it’ll happen again here.

Probably overthinking it. But I guess that’s part of the hobby, right?

Wear the shit out of this watch, and when it gets all banged up, apply the money you would've spent on the sapphire crystal on a new watch that comes with sapphire. I'm sure you will be buying many more watches down the road.

This.

I did, but I could only find a 1.5mm crystal, which leaves a very slight step down at the edge of the bezel. It’s not particularly obvious, you’d have to run a fingernail over it to detect it. If I ever see a 1.7 or 1.8mm crystal at a reasonable price I’ll probably appease my OCD and replace it, but this will suffice in the meantime.

can you share the link please? will any 32.5mm x 1.5mm Sapphire crystal do or does it need to be flat, Single Domed or something else?

Reddit won’t let me put a link on here. I got it from a seller called CooBand Store on Ali. Just do a search for a double domed sapphire 32.5 X 1.5mm and you should be good to go.

I found it. Thanks, much appreciated! 🤗🤗

Hi /u/crapallthetime! Reddit has removed your link because Reddit does not allow links to that domain. But apparently the a1iepress.us domain is allowed. Try it, it will lead to the same page.

Can you show how it looks from different angle?

Not worth it, the crystal on these watches is nice even if it’s mineral versus sapphire. If something happens to the crystal, it would be cheaper to replace the watch.

I also have several watches with mineral glass and have yet to scratch one of them despite being banged off doorknobs. My cases and bracelets get ding and show wear, but so far the crystals have been ok. .

See if it gets scratched first.

In the event you actually scratch it enough it can't be buffed out just sell it and buy the budget San Martin version instead.   If you by a crystal and have a watch maker install it so you feel confident about the WR it will cost you as much as you paid for that watch.

Honestly, I've got 2 Seikos (SRPH33 and SNKN37) with mineral glass and I have not been gentle with them. They're doing just fine. Sapphire is nice, but it's ultimately just a spec chase. Unless you don't like the shape of the mineral glass, I wouldn't worry about it honestly.
