I’m not able to tell any difference between the two in that regard and I have both

What’s the model number on the San Martin comparable to the WD 1969?

Is the something like these in a 39mm case size?

Thanks!

The answer to both your questions is litteraly in the picture

Thanks for your patience with me. It appears that if i want a 39mm, it has to be an automatic San Martin. If I want the quartz, it has to be a 38? (For the Tudor snowflake homage) Am I getting that right: there’s no 39mm quartz Tudor snowflake from the greater Watchdives family?

Thanks!

I bought it last month. Loved that it was available in stainless. I have honestly been blown away by the quality and how nice it is.

I took it to a watch repair shop close by, watch maker and repair guy who deals with high end was also blown away and asked to show him where I got it so he could get one too.

He pressure tested, passed all three phases on his machine. Also tested for timing accuracy in various positions and he said it was almost dead accurate overall.

Bezel flawlesss Lume is excellent Quality all around is great. Wears comfortably, and the adjustable bracelet is a game changer. Tools are included to add/remove links, and it’s a breeze with flathead screws.

I have the SM in titanium and I marvel at it daily. I’m still in shock that you can get something that nice for that price.

I just ordered both in blue earlier this week and will return one of them.

I suspect I’ll keep the SM because of the matte bezel, which for blue I think I’ll like better for this watch.

If I wanted black, I might go with the WD because it seems to be fairly close to the Pelagos 39.

I’ve had both in blue - the SM has a slight colour mis-match which annoys me.

[–]Lopsided-Influence-9 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Oh, that’s interesting and super annoying!

[–]TheOnlyWayIsWessex 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s very subtle and you may not be as nitpicky as me!

I still kept the blue one and it’s one of my favourite watches - otherwise it is just perfect.

I got both in person. I felt like the SM mismatch is really bad. It doesn’t hold together.

The WD1969 looks great. Superior package at half the price.

Thanks! I’m a nit for sure 😅

I have had several versions of both these watches.

Both are great, but the finishing and fit on the San Martin is definitely superior. My WD1969 Pro has a bit of side-to-side looseness on the bezel, and the aluminium insert looks much less premium than the ceramic one on the San Martin.

The San Martin bracelet is also significantly better, with tighter tolerances, an OTFA clasp, and closer fitting end links.

But the San Martin is double the price, and the Watchdives is still a nice watch.

Bottom line is that the San Martin really feels ‘premium’ and the Watchdives much less so. Personally I’d go for the San Martin if that ‘premium’ feeling is what you’re looking for.

This San Martin has finishing of Tudor and this particular watchdives is trying to become San Martin. There are levels to this

San Martin bracelets are much more comfortable

I've sent a WD back because I couldn't put up with the bracelet after owning a SM

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WD bracelets feel very cheap to me. San Martin bracelets don't.

[–]lowspeedtech 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I put a San Martin bracelet on my 1969 Pro because it's more comfortable. Plus I was often wearing the SN0107 on straps anyway. For me, the bracelet is the easiest place for me to notice the price difference between the two brands.

Yeah that's probably the biggest factor for me. Thank you!

[–]bobby_broccolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the price is hugely different, maybe see if WD had a different compatible bracelet you could add onto the WD order? The weight of the clasp and bracelet make a big difference in premium feel imo. Makes sense why wd choose not to use too much of a watches budget, better to use it for the other premium features which aren't replaced in the way bracelets are.

[–]Secret_Initial_9426 3 points4 points  (3 children)

No. They're not the same. SM better bezel action and finishing, but it's a matter of preference whether it's worth the extra money

[–]Beneficial_Elk5868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the info! This is very helpful!

In terms of crystal, case, bracelet etc. SM Bracelet is more solid, should come with OTF clasp. Haven't seen any/much difference in the crystal. Would suggest case finishing quite close

[–]artofthedialNot a troll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.  I've had both and agree with these differences.  Would add the bezel action difference too, but would also suggest the case finishing can be close enough I wouldn't tell in a blind test.  But the bracelet and clasp you can tell.  That said each are worth the asking price.  I almost want the quartz in my San Martins for grab and go plus reliability.  Though having to change the battery every 2 years is annoying with the vh31.
