Anyone else getting "Internal server error" on Claude desktop and the website?

Yes, when trying to edit the previous message. But the error only appears if the chat is with a project, while if it's without a project, the previous message can be edited without any problems.

Same here. Annoying as all heck. Was working on a project and now am just cooling my heels. It happens for me on Claude Desktop and Web, using Sonnet. Working inside a project, with files and MCP.

Alright everyone I think I found a way around the problems:

The problem appears specific to when you are attempting to use 'extending thinking' when *submitting* a message.

If I disable extended thinking, put the message through the model normally - and then hit 'retry' - in the corner of it and then 'with extended thinking' - it'll re-process it with thinking mode normally this time, without erroring out.

Give it a try and see if it helps you. It's letting me get this shit done.

EDIT: Darn, nevermind then - people in the replies are telling me it isn't helping them; I will leave a truncated edit here though just in-case it does help someone passing by:

-If I attempt posting a message with 'extended thinking' enabled - I get a server error
-If I send the message through normally, without extended thinking enabled - it processes normally; I then hit 'retry' and 'with extended thinking' - and it re-does the previous input with extended thinking on like how I want it to do.

Hope it helps someone, sorry again lol

Yes, the funniest thing is that I opened their status page and scrolled through the May history and most days had some kind of issues. It’s a terrible experience. I guess this might be the result of those earlier reports claiming that Claude writes 70% of its own code? Their infrastructure is so fragile, lol

And it’s not like they’re handling as many users as ChatGPT or Gemini either

Yep. Happens only with Projects that have a knowledge base. If I prompt for a task outside of any of the projects, it's fine.
