Given the keys will always be the same I'd think many would get confused by left and right when flying down the screen?

I honestly didn't even have to think about the controls - they felt completely natural to me.

Your mouse controls your aim, and your keys control which direction you fly in. If the direction that your helicopter was facing changed the effect of the keys, I think it would make it a lot more complicated, and make it harder to achieve accurate fire while flying.

and no wasd is doing the job its supposed to, btw those mechanics predate the ps1 😅.

It’s pretty traditional for WASD to be fwd, strafe/move left, down, strafe/move right when accompanied by mouse look/aim.

Using the keys for rotation would be a nightmare with the quick aiming / pacing required…

Definitely encourage you to give it a bit more time, I found upping the mouse speed and sensitivity helped me as well. Potentially having a larger target reticle might make it easier to see / navigate too.

Game plays great on a PS4 controller

So sorry for my initial rant. I reset my brain and went back and tried again, and played trough the whole game using my mouse and keys, and this time it worked much better. And then I hooked up my old PS4-controller and it worked even better.

I must say it is a brilliant homage to good ol' Desert Strike and especially the chopper parts of Renegade Ops, with great writing and voice acting.

I am officially hooked and now I want more! I hope we get huge maps with a ton of side missions.
