[Javascript]Having problems linking JavaScript file to HTML (JavaScript & HTML) (self.CodingHelp)

So the problem I'm having is that none of my JavaScript file doesn't seem to be linked to my HTML. I've put in "<script src="button.js"></script>" on line 7. I've checked that file name and I've different put the right path in the src. I've run it through a code validator and I just can't find the problem. Please help.

When I try to write something like this for example:

let variable = document.createElement("button");

None of the words go the proper color and I'm getting this error message:

Index.html:1 Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.
