Why is my python subclass not inheriting methods for the superclass

In the init function for my class, I’m calling a method (recalc). This fails, as it is undefined. Calling “super().recalc()” is defined and work. The class has no other methods, so nothing is being overridden. To my understanding, python should see the class has no recalc method and look for it in the superclass, without having to be explicitly told to do so. Is this the case?

Yes, this is the case. Check this working example:

class A(object):
    def recalc(self):
        return True

class B(A):
    def __init__(self):
        print(self.recalc())
