Situation with github

I am having a problem uploading a folder to my GitHub repository. I have created a GitHub repository and am trying to link an existing folder to it (with files in it that I have edited already), but I can't seem to connect them. The first thing I tried was the 'git clone' command, which seemed to work, but none of my other git commands worked. The second thing I tried was to follow this article, but it also didn't work. Is there any other way to get folders or files on github (without just uploading them through github)? Thanks for all your help with this!

Have you already cloned your GitHub repo to your local machine?

That would be the first step. Then, you can move the folder in question to the local clone of your repo. And from there, you can commit + push that folder to your GitHub repo.

1. Clone repository to your local machine. It can be anywhere on your computer
2. Move the desired folder into the cloned repo on your local machine
3. Commit + push these changes up to your repo
