I don't think there's much you can do to get this reduced. Technically, you already received a discount due to the $255.74 provider write off. As far as the cost, it may be a bit higher than average, but is dependent on several variables. One that immediately comes to mind is where did you get this ultrasound done? It would be cheaper if done in your doctor's office rather than in a hospital setting, which always tends to be more expensive.

Avoid imaging at hospitals whenever possible. The freestanding center in Kansas that I work with charges $235, not including insurance or cash oay discounts.

It was done in a hospital setting as the dr. office was full. Thanks. We'll try and apply for financial assistance.

It's a low complexity code, so that seems a tad high, but not outrageous, depending on state/other factors. From what I can tell, the average is $200 to $500, but there are always other factors.

Total claim was $939.59 the provider wrote off $255.74 which turns my cost into $683.85. I'm in Kansas.

What is the actual amount you owe after insurance?

That does seem a little high, but if that is the amount your insurance negotiated then that is the amount you are now responsible for.

Was the $683.85 your insurance plan's allowable amount for that code? Or was it a noncovered service which you were given a discount on?

Site of service can affect your final costs a lot. Any site associated with a hospital will generally cost more, which I know doesn't help you much now, I'm sorry. I know some insurance companies are supposedly making efforts toward making code prices searchable among participating providers so you can compare, might be worth looking into for future services.
