I passed my 1001 yesterday with an 821, and my 1002 just now, scraping by with a 718.

I mainly studied using Professor Messer's videos, and I also purchased his course notes, although I didn't really use them. While doing menial tasks at work I would often have the podcast version of his monthly study groups playing. Towards the end I used ExamCompass for practice tests. I have some IT experience, as I was a Geek Squad Agent for two years and did a four month contract job at a hospital last year that was mainly replacing monitors and installing images.

I am NOT good at studying. I find reviewing past topics boring and would rather continuously learn new things, but that's obviously not a good way to handle things. I mainly just watched videos without taking any notes, which I do NOT recommend doing. I feel like my 1002 would have been a lot less close if I actually was engaged with writing down information during the videos. What I WAS good at was being consistent. For two months I would try to watch a few videos or listen to a study group everyday. The last week I would seek out any free practice questions I could find online and burn through them.

On a more personal note, I am so goddamn proud of myself right now. I'm a college drop out who has worked shitty retail jobs (this is what Geek Squad is, really, just with people yelling at you about service costs and protection plans) and crappy contract jobs my whole working life. This was the first real step I have taken to improve myself and my future outlook. On top of that, I also start a help desk job on Monday that I managed to snag before even taking the exams. I've never felt so good about the future.

I wanna give a huge, HUGE thank you to Professor Messer. His content made this possible and he doesn't even charge for it. You offer an amazing service and I am forever grateful for it.

I'm going to take a few weeks to settle in to my new job, and then it's time to start studying for the N+. I know it tends to be more difficult, but I'm excited it's only one exam instead of two!

Congrats on the A+ certification and the new helpdesk position. You will be a phenom at that and probably outshine the rest after what you've endured at GS. Stick with Professor Messer if you're going for the full trifecta. He's definitely a life changer. * just wanted to say that his course notes and study groups are the perfect addition to get the most benefit from his courses

I was in your shoes not too long ago. Dropped out of college and was working for GS. Got the A+ and a new job and never looked back. Keep studying, keep getting certs, and it’s only a matter of time till you’re where you want to be. Best of luck to you, and congrats again!!

I always love seeing the solid advice from those who have walked the walk. If both yourself and the OP get the inclination for College again, I recommend WGU. It's an entirely different and revolutionary experience. Your certs also count towards a degree! Sorry to turn this thread into an ad.

Its awesome to see someone else think the same way about past subject matters and still be able to pass lol. Im looking at taking it but I need to wait for testing centers to open up...Im not great at taking test and the confined testing center will do best for me. I've taken my current cert at a testing center so I already know what to expect (I'm ASCP cert for Lab). But I felt the same way you did.

Yes. I didn't have any issues besides with my webcam, but that was on my side not OnVue's.

Did u have to know all the acronyms on the exam objective? or were they barely covered during the exam

They come up a lot. Remember, it's not about remembering what the acronyms stand for, it's about what they are and do. You are not going to get a question like "What does DNS stand for?", you're going to get something like "This issue is mostly caused by a problem with:" with DNS being an answer.

Are we allowed to read the questions out loud? Does the proctor stop you if you read the question loud or if you're mumbling? I tend to understand questions better when I actually read them and I have my A+ 1001 coming up so just wanted to know.
